Travis Hamonic - In the Name of the Father (ESPN Feature)
Great feature by ESPN. If this doesn't make you a Hamonic fan, nothing will. Thrilled to welcome a person of his character to the Flames and I know he will have such a positive impact on that dressing room.

Was skeptical of trading out first this year for him but quite happy getting him and Valimaki over the weekend. He's a guy that I will be proud to cheer for
wow - that was powerful... likely becuz i know my dad will be gone very soon
i'm thrilled Homonic is a flame!
Sorry to hear Chris. I didn't want to make this thread about me but I lost my father 2 years ago and I would be lieing if I said I didn't tear up while watching this. Feel free to PM me if you ever need to chat

My dad passed away of cancer in 2003. I always thought of him when I have some minor achievement in life or career. All the "What ifs"...however, one should take that energy and makes one's life better as takeaways. It is great to see the human side of Hamonic in this video and the strengths of his family members. I am a fan!
Makes me happy he's a Flame and to be a Flames' fan. Sure as hell can't impugn his character for wanting a trade to be back close to home - especially since the reason for it is him mom's health. Great guy. Still a heavy price but I am 100% behind this trade now.

Also, having lost his dad, I can only imagine how he must have felt when he found out another member of his family (his mother?) was sick. It's no wonder he struggled this year.

Having lost a parent when I was young and both parents at realtively young age, I can relate to this topic a lot. It really becomes a defining and formative event. Even today, I can't hear a phone ring without getting a slight feeling of dread like I am about to get shocking and tragic news.
The feeling of impending doom never really leaves you.

Tremendous piece, tremendous family. Very excited to watch this young man play and must say that his initiative to reach out to those youngsters is just incredible. Honour, through and through. No question his father would be exceptionally proud of his son.

Having lost a parent at a very young age myself, the impact an experience like this can have on a child can't be overstated. It's pretty lonely feeling like you have to deal with it on your own because you don't want to cause any more hardship on your remaining parent/family members who are having a hard time coming to grips with it themselves. I'll be extremely proud to have someone of this character as a member of the Flames.
We don't know yet how well Hamonic will fit with this team on the ice, but off the ice he is 100% a flames organization player. Burke and Treliving place a big emphasis on character and community service and Hamonic seems to have this in spades. Full credit to him for turning his own grief into a real positive program for children experiencing loss.
