.
Khao San on 17th Ave next to 1410 is the best in the city, though it is a bit pricey.

For take out and something much cheaper, check out Thai Fusion Delight also on 17th Ave, but on the other end close to National.

Yep, I've been to Bow River, though I'd forgotten that was what it was called and just remembered the slanted parking lot. Quite good, just not central enough.

I've been to Khao San as well, it was pretty good but I agree, pricey, to the point where it wasn't good enough to justify the difference.

Meanwhile Divino has foie gras ravioli... it's a culinary fight to the death.
We really enjoyed Blink on Monday. Thought the food was really really good. Although the service was quite lackluster in my opinion.

Thanks so much for this. Been meaning to get there since I saw this post and finally did today. As a born and bred Monctonian, this was the most amazing donair I've had out west as well. The sauce was spot on, which is always the hardest thing to find out here. The only bad thing is I only live 15 minutes away, so my waist line will suffer tremendously over the next while, I'm sure.

Oddly enough, I am a Monctonian (Riverview) and also live 15 minutes away (Rocky Ridge). I'm sure we will unknowingly cross paths at Donair on the Run. I often encounter other Maritimers there, and I've never sent someoneone there that didn't got back frequently.

If I were opening a German sausage restaurant, I'd go with Best of the Wurst.

EDIT: And it exists. sigh. never an original thought.

Had lunch there at re:grub (burger spelled backwards) and the decor is weird. The owner tries to emphasize they compost and recycle so they place a lot of composite boards inside and outside of the restaurant. If you don't pay attention, you might think someone had just broke the windows last night.

Unfortunately, I find the burger and fries pretty ordinary. The homemade bun is way too crispy and the hand cut fries too dry. The food is not terrible but I have no burning desire to return as well. Frankly, I think the boutique burger food trend has been played out in Calgary.

A few of us stopped in at Las Canarias a couple of weeks ago. We drove from the south end of the city all the way to Royal Oak.....it was WELL worth the drive.

Certainly not the cheapest place, but terrific value. Tapas, a bottle of wine (house red was quite good) and 3 entrees came to $200 (tip included).

The atmosphere is pretty authentic, very reflective of the places we visited in Spain (and somewhat like Portugal) last spring, and was filled with VERY happy customers.

Service was a touch slow, very much like in mainland Spain! Just a bit understaffed that night, but not a problem. We spent a full 2 hours eating, drinking, and chatting; Enjoyed every moment.

As for the food specifically, I had the Lamb Shank and call it a 10 out of 10. It may be the best restaurant meal I've ever had. Perfect. Just Perfect.
