I have a Shaw HD PVR on my main floor. I want to get an HD box forthe basement. Do I have to call Shaw and get them to set up my digital box in the basement? Or can I just buy a box online (even on CP) and set it up and since I already order the digital cable package, I'll automatically get it in the basement too.
^ you have to call Shaw and get them to put the new box (even on CP or kijiji) on your account. Once you do that, they will send a signal to the box to authorize it, and you will be good to go.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

not sure, maybe 3.95 per box or 7.95 for whole house or some such thing.
also, if buying off kijiji, have the seller transfer it to your account, they have to call shaw and do it, otherwise, shaw will tell you to hang up and get them to anyway.

I thought it was a 2 dollar fee per box or something like that?
Depends if you rent or own your box outright. I have an old PVR that still works fine and I don't pay anything extra to use it, but I bought the box instead of paying a monthly fee for it. What you might be thinking of is the option Shaw has to pay something like $3/month for 3 years for each Portal instead of paying the full cost upfront. If you went to Future Shop and bought another Portal at full price you could hook it up without paying anything extra.
So now that Shaw's site is working again I took a look at my bill and Ashartus is correct. If you buy the receiver outright there is no monthly charge, Shaw does offer essentially a payment plan program for receiver's though as mentioned. Details of mine:
