I like Freeman's solo record Marvelous Clouds. At the last Calgary show (Flames Central), Freeman left the stage during the encore while the bad continued to jam for 20-30 mins. Maybe he was already checked-out then?
I hope they re-unite one day. In the meantime, Mickey has his other project Moistboyz?
La Cucaracha was named album of the year in 2007 by Magnet.
Please God no. Music sucks enough as is, we don't need to lose one of the few great bands left. Still if they break-up it truly has been a great run for Gene and Deaner.

Well that certainly doesn't make things any easier to take, nicer to think that it was a group decision and not just Gene running off. I'm not entirely surprised by the news, I predicted a few months back that this was coming very soon. I haven't listened to Gene's solo record yet...
I thought this was a thread where we could talk safely about erectile dysfunction.

We may curse our bad luck that it's sounds like its; who's sounds like whose; they're sounds like their (and there); and you're sounds like your. But if we are grown-ups who have been through full-time education, we have no excuse for muddling them up.
Long story short Gene was making a ton of mistakes to the point where the rest of his band left him alone on stage. Its a real shame Ween are one of my favorite bands.
They filled a hole that too few bands even noticed was there — and they filled it with a playfully encyclopedic, loving sense of genre-jumping songcraft, and the smart-but-inexperienced adolescent's unending desire for dick jokes. Ween are the ultimate freaks and geeks band.
Underneath the jokes, though, was a deep respect for composition and instrumental skill. Ween stayed strange, but got better.
People have, and will, peg Ween's legacy as that of a joke-band. They were that, sure, but they were more. They were a friend band.
The 10 Best Ween Songs (good list)
"Gabrielle" "Flutes of the Chi" "Transdermal Celebration" "Your Party" "You Were the Fool" "Buckingham Green" "Mutilated Lips" "The Stallion" Suite "It's Gonna Be (Alright)" "Roses Are Free"
Apparently, the same is true of Freeman, who perhaps accidentally announced Ween's breakup in an interview with Rolling Stone. "This is news to me," Melchiondo wrote on Facebook, "all I can say for now, I guess." Perhaps it's all a horrible mistake, something to be talked out as only two old friends can.
But if it's true, it's at least as sad a rock split as Kim and Thurston.
They developed a genuine cult following, becoming the nearly definitive soundtrack for the subspecies of teenager rock writers once meant by "punk"—obscure, quasi-vile glue-sniffers from the greasier side of the tracks. Differentiating themselves from the sometimes overlapping Deadhead/Phishhead kin with a drug agenda that came not from any cosmic desire to become One, but instead to get swiftly destroyed, Ween's presented a fantasy that was just as much about getting ####ed up than it was about literally getting ####ed up. Though it was that, too. Within those parameters, and an extraordinarily deep songbook that included at least an alternate album's worth of material for each disc released, Ween bred a fanbase with a nearly three-dimensional appreciation for the band's body of music, something rare and beautiful in any part of the music world.
I haven't listened to Ween in years, but this is sad news. My top 5 Ween songs would be:
1: Homo Rainbow
2: Big Jilm
3. Mutilated Lips
4. Baby Bitch
5: I Don't Wanna Leave You on the Farm
Reggaejunkiejew
Dont get too close to my fantasy
Voodoo Lady
I Can't put my finger on it
Ocean Man
Buckingham Green
Bananas and Blow
Gabrielle
Tried and True
The Stallion (part 3)
