Default VGK games wont be available on TV to most of....Las Vegas

remarkable buffoonery here.

Quote:
We are 36 hours from the Knights playing at Dallas and officially bringing Las Vegas its first major league professional sports franchise, and as things stood Wednesday afternoon, the valley’s largest cable provider still doesn’t offer a channel that will show the team.

And that blame lies directly at the skates of the Knights, because that’s where fans will rightly place it.

They’re all that matters when you’re an NHL team needing support as you navigate expansion waters of guaranteed losing for the immediate future.
This thing was backward from the outset.

They were too busy inking up a no beard policy and this slipped through the cracks. Priorities!

That's not a surprise at all. I'm sure that the Golden Knights were counting on a rich TV deal like the other teams with large demographic areas.

Nobody is going to watch them on TV anyway, so they'd just care about signing a large TV deal that relies on expensive carriage fees. I"m not sure why that sports network thought they'd be able to get those fees selling a team without a fan base though.

Like the article mentions, no one in LA has been able to watch the Dodgers for 3 years. I'm sure this is going to start to happen a couple more times, and then the RSNs will stop paying anywhere near what they are for local rights.

Great Falls, Montana is where we'd always sleep on road trips to Vegas. At least now, we only need to go half way to watch hockey

US TV is weird. Can you even imagine a local channel, or a channel with regional Flames coverage, only being available on Telus or Shaw or Bell? Or worse, that it was only available on Rogers cable which isn't available in Western Canada?

yup sounds like it won't be done on time. A friend of mine is going to watch the game at a Vegas bar, $5 cover charge! proceeds go to the victims of the shooting.

I can, because it happened. When Rogers launched Sportsnet One, they had a hell of a fight getting other cable companies to pick the channel up because of their carriage fee demands. Most of Canada missed a number of Jays games (as Jose Bautista was chasing 50 HRs) as a result. The channel was on the air for several months before Rogers reached agreements with Shaw and Telus, just in time for that year's NHL season. Luckily for us, as a number of Flames and Oilers games would have otherwise been completely unavailable in Calgary and Edmonton.

Kind of similar, but only for a handful of games (national? regional? I forget) as opposed to every regional game.

Golden Knights fans who are Cox Cable subscribers will get to watch their team from the comfort of their home.

A source with direct knowledge of the negotiations confirmed that a deal is done but could not speak publicly about it.

Cox, the largest provider for television services in the valley, reached a 12th-hour agreement with AT&T to put AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, the official channel for the Golden Knights, on its system. However, it was not known if Friday’s first season opener against the Dallas Stars would be on Cox in time or what channel would be dedicated to AT&T SportsNet.

The game will be shown on DirecTV, Prism, DISH and U-verse for those customers.

The Cox-AT&T deal, which came after more than two months of negotiations, was finalized late Friday morning. Golden Knights team officials did not have immediate comment

Nah, we got lucky and Rogers came to its senses right before the NHL season started so no games were missed. But it was a close thing in the end.

Then there is the absurdity that has been the LA Dodgers situation.

Wasn’t there a Cubs playoff game last season that wasn’t available to most of Illinois?
