Gio clearly the player of the decade. Gaudreau second IMO and I’m happy to see Brodie recognized.
One playoff series win in a decade speaks for itself I guess because after Gio not a lot of “great” on that list when looking within the timeframe.

The decade started with a team that has made playoffs 5 straight years but also 4 straight first round exits. The first 5 years would be missed before surprisingly making it and winning a round. We saw a team slowly get stripped down and rebuilt. At the end of the day the makes the playoffs 3 times, 1 first round victory, 1 division banner, 6 playoff wins total.
Pretty brutal decade

How about an all decade roster? I'd take a crack at it but didn't really get back into NHL hockey until the rebuild was fully in swing so would miss a lot of people from the early 2010's teams

Selecting the coach was the most challenging part.

The comment that Monahan was the centre the Flames were missing during the Iginla years is kind of interesting. I disagree with it as I don't think their styles would have meshed all that well. Maybe Monahan would have been good at depositing all the rebounds from Iggy's ridiculous shot. Monahan is many things but I would never describe him as a playmaker or possession-driver which is what I think you needed with Iginla.
Craig Conroy was a poor-man's version of those things which is why Iginla's best years (arguably) were as he played next to Connie.

Monahan, much like Iginla is an underrated playmaker. Monahan scores goals because he is smart and goes to the right place, but his passing ability is excellent. I have little doubt the two would have excelled together.

Don’t forget, Iggy wasn’t just a sniper. When he played with Cammalleri in 08-09, he worked as more of a setup man once he had someone to dish the puck to who would finish. I’d bet with Monahan it would have been somewhat similar.

The omission of Jakub Nakladal has rendered this exercise useless.

I’d say Lindholm would’ve been a much better center for Iginla than Monahan.

Hartley has 83 percent of the Flames playoff victories this decade, seems like an easy choice

Peters did have a great regular season. One of the best in Flames history whereas winning a playoff series “shouldn’t” be all that special.
Not that he’s the kind of person I want to see recognized.

When you’re the Flames, it’s an absolute miracle.

In the last 30 years we have won 4 playoff series, great accomplishments each and every one.

Wish they had all been in the same season.
