Hi Keith, we have a basement tenant that is looking to add some more heat to her unit. Unfortunately, with one furnace, there seems to be about a 3-4 degree difference in temp between our unit and hers... I'm wondering if there are any ways to level this out aside from the obvious (fan on, cleaning vents, electric heater, etc.)

Major Major .

Lots of factors here.
I'm willing to bet there are a lack of intakes in the basement .
which contributes to a cooler basement?

Also age of furnace , duct and vent runs, improper type of filter ....too thick and you'll have airflow restrictions and an underperformed furnace.

Pm me if you have any other?????

Keith dropped by today and took care of my furnace - thank you for your work!
Don't hesitate to reach out to him and have your furnace looked after.

Parents and in-laws are asking for his information for their next clean up now.

I also picked up and changed the filters, Keith

Keith was by last week too. I think I kept him at the house longer than either of us expected between my questions and his thorough answers, definitely a wealth of knowledge and a believer in doing it right the first time. I think I also contributed to his blood pressure going up as he was most unhappy with the job the installer did on my furnace and the more he talked about it, the more my pressure went up too! I’m now preparing for a new furnace in a couple of years.

Key learnings were:
- your furnace needs air, and clogged filters are bad news. Make sure you swap or clean your filters often to extend the life. We were cleaning our electronic filters at least twice a year but should be doing it monthly.
- pull the door on your furnace at least twice a year and look inside. Check for any water or corrosion damage and take pictures. If things change, send a picture on to Keith and get his opinion (plus book him for a cleaning).

There were a million other things but they were somewhat more specific to my situation. Regardless if he has good or bad news the information he gives you is well worth it.

Actually NOT so.specific to your situation.....and what I.mean by that is there's a growing issue I see all too consistently NOT being addressed by HVAC technicians and that's condensate leak detection , checks and prevention.

I'd say statistically I've seen the number of 10 year old high efficiency furnaces and newer with leaks that ive caught early enough to address has jumped from 18% as of 3 years ago to 52% here in the last 2 years consecutively.

Almost 70% of all new furnaces are installed incorrectly in Calgary at our altitude not accounting for gas pressures., slope and grade of furnace towards condensate drain floor drain , improper sized filter racks, wrong filters being used.

Yes 70%

I compile stats on certain furnaces and which furnaces that are new.up to 10 years old and here's list of worst to best.

1. Goodman, Amana , Daiken (Worst)
2. Lennox...Aireflo,
3. Trane ...American Standard...Ameristar
3. Keep rite, ICG, Inter city
4. Coleman, York
5. RUUD, Rheem , Heil
6. Carrier, Bryant , Payne

This isn't always the manufacturers.fault......in fact its the company you hires technician that they sent to your house and their lack of continuing training, exposure to new technology, training procedures and protocols

Truly the issue though is about quality control, enforcement , training from that company's journeyman checking the work.

Anyone wanting to ask me.anything please ask. Send me pictures of your set up new or old and by the pictures i can definitively tell you advise you what I see that can be addressed fixed before it becomes a huge issue.

Seriously. I'm offering this for FREE ....why wouldn't you.

Bump...air conditioning season is here

I can clean outside condenser units with Cleaning foam , compressed air for folks not wanting to use their garden hoses during the water crisis.

Or ....just secretly do it.at 2 am.....shhhh
