At what point do the Oilers try to lock down Koskinen before he hits UFA this summer? I hate to say it, but he looks to be for real.

Hopefully he's too smart for that. We have a net available for him next year here!

FFS, this Oilers game is gonna end 1-0, isn't it. Early 2000's-era trap hockey appears to work in today's NHL. Who knew? Sadly this style of play might actually get the Oil into a wildcard spot or higher if they keep this up.

That's so premature.
I always wait to see a goalie go through a rough patch and see how well they can rebound from it before calling any one starter quality. Often you can get guys like the hamburglar that are hot off of the start for a stretch but then irrelevant later on once they've gone through the motions and been lit up a couple times. Costco nun hasn't faced his adversity yet, and he's not going to be on a hot streak forever.

Oh, I get all that. Also, it will be interesting to see how he handles starting, say, a 25 out of 30 game stretch. But right now he looks really, really solid.

Lol it's not.
They're 100% riding the new coach bump right now. But that roster is what it is and there's no way an outdated system can mask those warts for long before they revert to what they are.

It’s going to put them in a playoff position soon and as long as they keep getting solid goaltending they will be competitive playing that style of hockey as the neutral zone trap is back.

If they don't become physically exhausted by how they are being asked to play they will break down mentally or just tune Hitch out. Ask Dallas. Ask St. Louis. Theres only so much being yelled at a player can take.

Also how did Koskinen look when they weren't / aren't playing that system?
