THIS HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED.

All we know is that Mike Smith sustained an injury—one thought not to be serious by the coaching staff.

We know nothing about the injury.

We do not know when it happened.

We do not know how it affected him.

We do not know how he and the trainers handled it beyond replacing him with Rittich in the second intermission.

Sorry, moved my post to the goalie debate thread. This isn't the place for it.

I'll give you an honest reply there.

Insider trading:

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...apanen~1564366

McKenzie says there has been more trade talk this December than ever before
doesn't guarantee a trade will happen before the Holiday Roster freeze on Dec 19
some GMs McKenzie talked to say this much chatter is unprecedented
some people believe reason for increased trade talks because LA, CHI, STL, and PHI are having disappointing seasons

LeBrun: the Hurricanes almost had a trade last week with a western conference team that fell through at the 11th hour
Canes were on in Nylander and now have interest in Kapanen
Canes have lots of young d-men they are offering for a top 6 forward

no doubt in McKenzie's mind that Leafs will try to add a defenceman before the trade deadline
anybody that has a good defenceman, Toronto will be willing to talk to them
assets Toronto may move: Kapenen, Johnsson, Brown

Kings GM Blake is all ears right now on everyone except Doughty and Kopitar
no one is sure on what that means for Quick
Lebrun doesn't believe Kings are shopping him but some teams are sniffing around
it may depend on the offer for Quick, who also doesn't have a NTC
Kings need to turn over their roster and get younger

Jeff Carter expected to draw lots of interest
whether it is Boston, Arizona, or any other team looking for forwards
has 3 years left at $5.27 mil cap hit, but what is really manageable is that he is only owed $7 miliion total over the last 3 years
doesn't have no trade protection and loves it in LA BUT if he gets traded somewhere he doesn't want to go, retirement is an option for him
If Carter did retire, Kings would be hit with a recapture penalty of $3.75/year over next 3 years

Seattle has 10-12 names for GM
won't approach candidates until after season is over

Basically, if LA doesn't want to be hit with a recapture penalty, they will ask Carter where he wants to go.

In theory though, let’s assume Stone is ok, as the 7/8 guy, what really do the Flames need rental wise? At the back they look fine with Stone, Valamaki and Kylington battling for the 6 spot. Stone being s vet can slide in if a rookie is overwhelmed.
Up front, assuming no injuries, you have guys like Ryan Czarnik Hathaway.
Let’s also assume Neal gets going, which he will. And Frolik and Backlund who currently injured.
So it really leaves goaltending, and I don’t think Treliving really has been 100% comfortable. After Rittich poor ending to last year, and Smiths below average start to this year, and now some sort of injury, I don’t think Treliving stands pat like he decided to last year when it comes to goalies. He can see how much this team is flourishing under Peters and isn’t going to let a goalie situation he’s not fully comfortable with, pull the team down when it matters the most over the next 4 or 5 months or more.

It's too bad we don't have the ability to aquire a guy like Tofolli out of LA if they are willing to move almost anyone.

I feel like adding another RHed skilled forward and possibly a goalie would make us pretty comfortable in all departments as we wouldn't have any deficiencies.

If Calgary was to go after a goalie, it would cost an asset - what would you be willing to give up?

Bennett a 2nd and Kylington for Quick?

Likely a no from the Kings but would certainly address one area for the Flames.

Also depends on what the Kings want or can do with Carter. Sounds like the Bruins are pretty interested

I forgot for a while that Monahan and Toffoli played together in junior. He's on a nice contract for one more year. If he could slot in on the top line and free up Lindholm to centre or RW the second line, the Flames would be super deep.

LA would want a premium to send Toffoli to a rival.

Kings should jump at that package of offered. I wouldn’t want to o that deal mostly because Quick is always injured.

Also if we trade Bennett I hope it is out east.

That's pretty close, IMO. Might have to add or even upgrade to a 1st. Do we believe Quick is worth that today, though? Are his numbers this year mostly due to health factors and an abysmal Kings team?

With that said I just know Bennett will end up flourishing with a divisional rival just to spite us.

I really don't like the idea of moving any bodies off the roster, bennett included.

Unless his perceived value is much higher league wide than I suspect, it's just not worth it to deal him at this point. Maybe in the summer as an RFA he could be used as part of a deal for a goalie, but I wouldn't be itching to pull the trigger on a deal for him between now and the draft.

If a team out there views bennett as equivalent to a 1st, then sure, consider it, but otherwise I think he's too valuable to a roster competing for a division title.

There aren't enough warm bodies in the organization to consider moving bennett.

Play Mangiapanne full-time? I don't think so.

Derek Wills was on 960 this morning and I think I heard him say that Tarasenko has been reported as a real locker room poison in St. Louis.

Stipulating that Quick is a fine goalie and obviously better than Smith. BUT, if you hate Smith's bad goals, Quick has let in a couple of the worst I've ever seen.

I personally wouldn't touch that if i was the flames. Quick's injury history would really worry me. Also Bennett with the Kings isn't something I want to explore.

I also heard that mentioned on one of the afternoon shows. I don't remember the exact wording but they said he could be divisive, like how PK Subban was viewed in Montreal.

I heard that too. That being said, I will happily take him on the Flames if the Blues don't want him. Especially if he is free .. fine fine, we can give them Jankowski+Frolik

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tarasenko
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Neal
Bennett-Backlund-Mangiapane
