Winnipeg makes the most sense as much as I don't like saying it.

Nanaimo would be a good spot and would have a team if they had a decent rink. Now that Victoria is thriving, the travel, rivalry and population make sense. At least if Kelowna is any indication, a real good fan base for junior hockey season ticket holders is seniors. I can't see them building an expensive 5-6k rink there though.

Fort McMurray for me would be a perfect market, loads of disposable income and Edmonton type conditions with not much to do in the winter. Their old AJHL rink again is not suitable for the dub and they've had a disaster trying to build a new downtown rink due to a number of factors.

I think Grand Prairie would be third... they didn't even manage an AJHL team until the 90s and got that by building that new rink for the Canada Games, odds of them building a new stadium are probably the longest given their 2.9k seater is still pretty new.

But ultimately in this day and age the deciding factor is finding willing and rich owners who want to plunk their money down and build a nice new rink and establish a strong program in a market.

PG has bad travel but they have a worse program, their recruiting sucks because no one wants to live in the city or play for a team with such a bad reputation for development/success. Good programs can draft NCAA commits late and convince them to come, look at what the Rockets just did with Trevor Wong, or guys like Bowey in the past those were like getting gifted top 3-5 picks.

Fort Mac or GP should get a team in the Dub. Those are two hockey crazy markets.

My pick would be GP. Revolution place has a 2900 seat arena which is on par with some smaller market dub teams and would sell out up there. The corporate season ticket sales alone would fill the place up.

Im sure a Reno could add another 1000 seats.

Bring WHL to northern Alberta!

I grew up watching Oil Barons hockey in Ft McMurray. It was the only game in town, so the games were always fun to watch. I went to SAIT with a guy who played goal for the Calgary Canucks, loved going to McMurray because the building was rocking. They'd fill it for the WHL, too.

My daughter's assistant coach played in the WHL in the 90s. He was traded to Prince George and actually quit rather than deal with their awful travel schedule.

Holy ####.

Canes just traded for Nick Henry and Leschychyn from Regina. Joseph, Kolle and 7 picks going the other way.

Two 19 year olds who are now the top two scorers on the Canes. Henry is 7th in the league scoring roght now and Leschychyn is 14th.

Again, holy ####

Anholt going all-in this year.

Huge deal.

They still need a goalie, although Tetachuk has been improving. Id like to see them upgrade Klassen.

Tigers are looking good with Sogaard really playing well, too bad they're extremely unlikely to deal Hollett to the rival Canes.

It would be a perfect fit for both the Canes and for Hollett, who is too good of a goalie to be in a tandem situation at the WHL level.

I'll admit I know nothing about the contracts in junior hockey, but I was surprised to see there was such a thing as a no trade clause at this level.

This trade happened yesterday.

“Carter has waived his no trade clause for the opportunity to be a key player up front moving forward. We wish them all the best moving forward.”

There is a new rule in the WHL now where you can't trade any players who are under 18 years of age, unless they ask for one (or apparently 'agree' to it, in this case).

I'm assuming that's what they are referring to as the player in question is just 17.

PA lost only their 2nd game of the season last night in a shoot out to the league worst Swift Current Broncos.

Ended a 19 game win streak, they are now 26-1-1 lol.

They out shot the Broncos 50 something to 20 something though, appears as though Hofer stole that one.

Makes sense and is a sensible rule. Thanks for the explanation.

On Monday, Kootenay Ice are expected to announce their move to Winnipeg. First season is 19/20.

Interesting as having all 3 NHL/AHL/CHL teams in the same city has been avoided in Canada for some time.

The Prince Albert Raiders Director of Player Personnel Ron Gunville passed away this afternoon after losing his battle with cancer. He was a very great man who will be missed by many. RIP Gunner.

A kid that plays in the WHL has a sister that I worked with maybe 7 years ago or so. Anyway she got super trashed at a staff party and her boobs came out a few times, and her vagina even made an appearance. For obvious reasons I don't want to say which player... I don't want to embarrass anyone.

/CoolStoryBro

edit: to be more specific I'm only sharing because the kids good and may get drafted and play in the NHL. And isn't it an interesting anecdote to say "oh player x just scored a hatty! wow! his sister got naked at my staff party".

I dunno. My life isn't interesting.

Ryan Vandervlis who had burns to 60% of his body in that campfire accident in June, has signed with the Red Deer Vipers (Junior B). Great story of perseverance!

Lethbridge has acquired goalie Liam Hughes from Seattle. Sounds like Seattle is going into sell mode. Matthew Wedman and Reece Harsh are rumored to be the next to go.
