Unbearable Weight was awesome. It a tribute to Cage’s career, not just with the many references but feels like watching a bunch of different Cage movies. Starts off more dramatic and cerebral before turning into a comedy and finally ending with crazy over the top action.

Civil War is so, so good. What an incredible movie. Really ####ing scary though, because it doesn't feel too far away from where we are now. That last 30 or so minutes was intense, the same level of anxiety as I felt with movies like Dunkirk and Saving Private Ryan.
Also, I'm 100% a Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst fangirl.
I think A24 might be my new favourite production company. Everything they're putting out just kills it.

I give A24 a ton of props just for taking chances on a ton of original work. Even if some are misses, the hits are great!
You can tell they are getting bigger budgets, and i hope they dont fall into the trap of risk aversion. Continue to make those under 50M (most are under 10M) and take some risks.
Civil War was pretty good. Definitely hooks you and keeps you hooked. No idea how realistic how the journalists moved/interacted with the soldiers was but it sure looked legit and impressive.
Probably my only complaint is that it was pretty standard fare, I wasn't surprised by anything, didn't really feel it was trying to say anything different. Or maybe what it was trying to say didn't come across well enough.
Still really well done and worth seeing.

Watched my first Sydney Sweeney movie last night. Immaculate tried to so something. Came up short. The ending was rock solid though. Like, it was an amazing ending.
Rest of the movie was just okay.

Standard fare? I dunno, the whole idea of this happening on American soil amidst a hypothetical modern day civil ideological divide was profound. There were moments of violence that punched me harder picturing it happening the way it did in the US that I never appreciated happening in coups, modern or otherwise, in eastern countries.
Spoiler!
The militia groups massacring and mass graving an American town. The assaults on the DC mall. The assault on the White House and intercepting "The Beast". Essentially executions and murder of White House staffers and representatives. Shoot-outs and elimination of "enemy" operatives (the Secret Service) in the White House corridors. Executing the President like a despot and posing over the corpse.
A lot of these scenes at the Capitol made me sick. This just isn't supposed to happen in the civilized West, so I could never picture it.
For me, the separation I would have with a coup or civil war in a second or third world country collapsed. Even as a fiction, like Sliver mentioned, this movie ####ed me up.

I saw two movies tonight. Civil War and Abigail. A huge recommendation for both! I think I enjoyed Abigail more, but I don't think you're supposed to enjoy Civil War.
Civil War was horrifying to watch, and definitely a glimpse into a possible future. It was sad to witness how disposable life was, where humanity was absent. People dying on the streets, mass graves, and the "them or us" mentality. Garland was partisan on the subject matter, and didn't pass blame on one side or the other. I don't understand those who believe otherwise, those critics are trying to find fault in something that's not there.
It was horrifying to watch something we seem so far removed of... and yet in parts of the world it exists today. That scene with Jesse Plemmons was absolutely terrifying... especially not knowing which side he was wife, and what to say. From a fleeting moment of joy to the worst moment of your life. This kind of movie really puts things in a depressing perspective.
As for Abigail, I absolutely loved it! The biggest problem if anything was the trailer. Since they give away much of the plot in the trailer it removes many of the twists and turns. Knowing the truth about Abigail hurt the potential of the movie. That being said it was a fun ride, with compelling characters, well executed action scenes, and a great amount of gore. Alisha Weir (Abigail) is a scene stealer; Barrera, Durand, and Dan Stevens (one of my favourites) also put in some great work. Radio Silence continues to make great movies. A huge recommendation for this one. I also had some of my biggest laughs at a movie this year. A very smart and clever movie, with a great cast.
I laughed out loud for "the onion" bit. It made complete sense for that character as well.

No long write ups for this one: Dark Harvest sucks. If you don’t have he twist figured out in the first 90 seconds you may want to consider making sure you don’t carry any crayons that are too sharp

For sure it definitely had more impact and kept you hooked for the whole movie.
By standard fare I mean that the plot of the movie was pretty predictable, and while it was pretty gripping seeing war in a more recognizable/identifiable venue movies depicting the brutality of war and doing it well have been done before. Standard definitely doesn't mean bad or not worth watching, Civil War does most everything very well and almost everything feels visceral and real.
I just didn't feel quite as big a difference between this and another really good war movie set elsewhere. Or maybe because I've read several novels that have done similar things.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was a lot of fun. I thought the mix of old and new was well done and spent a lot of time grinning. I don't agree with there being too many subplots or characters. I'm probably a sucker for nostalgia and modern remixes so I'm definitely a receptive audience.
That said it obviously doesn't live up to the originals, but what does?
I probably liked Afterlife more, but I still liked this enough to hope they do more.
