Jankowski for Virtanen (I think) is a terrific deal.

At this point Jankowski for cap space is looking like a good deal. He has been a total dud this season.

I would argue that it goes back to the high danger scoring chance argument from last year. Not trying to be combative so hopefully you don't see it that way, but I feel the eye test just shows certain players can poke around the high danger area and simply don't have an eye for finishing chances or getting off quality shots, where the high danger scoring chance stat would claim that it must be bad luck and the pucks will start going in. Some players just aren't good at scoring or finishing plays due to low hockey IQ.

Bennett seems like this kind of player at the NHL level. He's a buzz saw so he certainly gets around and open and sometimes the puck is there but ultimately he just isn't that great at finishing.

Wish means his production likely is what it is regardless of what the stats say he's generating or should be scoring in the future.

You wouldn't even get that right now. Cap space has become gold in NHL deals, you need to pay to get rid of contracts where a player isn't producing, whether you pay with a pick or another sub-optimal contract coming back.

With Jankowski you wouldn't have to pay a pick but you'd likely have to bring back another struggling $1-$2mil contract.

Or critically, the hands.

Nope all good. I agree.

Getting chances is great, and if he doesn't have the hands you hope that these chances land at the foot of linemates so the trio becomes more productive ... but that hasn't happened either.

He is what he is ... which statistically is a third line player.

Hence Virtanen, another struggling 1st rounder making $in that range and who is a pending RFA (but who checks some boxes as a decent sized, speedy, RHS RW). I think he fits pretty well on the right side of Ryan.

Treliving has traded with Vancouver before, so it's not impossible.

And they'd both be bad.

Why? Bennett, jankowski and virtanen are all on the same tier. Replaceable players that might benefit from a change of scenery. It's not like virtanen is any good. Pretty much a RH RW version of bennett

The question for me is how bad Vancouver needs a C, which is partly dependent on Sutter's injury status. Also Beagle's.

And? Virtanen probably gets to 20 last season if not for a long injury and has a better gpg than Jankowski over the past 3 seasons (including this one)

Virtanen is finally starting to figure out who he is and how he can contribute at the NHL level on a consistent basis. The last thing I would want to do is send him to a divisional rival as he is figuring this out, for a player I don't see helping us in anyway.

Virtanen is much faster than Bennett which is the difference over who I'd want.

Beagle is expected to play tomorrow and Sutter is expected back on this road trip or just after. Nevermind the fact that Gaudette's play is going to make the Canucks life difficult since it's going to be hard to send the kid down and he is also a center.

We're seeing Mangiapane and Dube now surpassing Bennett on depth charts. Good problem to have. Be interesting to see where Bennett slots in after he returns from injury.

Popcorn row? I don't sit either of Dube or Mangiapane for him at this point. Hell, I'm not sure I'd sit Reider over Bennett right now. Showing good wheels and some nice plays recently.

Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangi
Dube-Monahan-Backlund
Bennett-Ryan-Gaudreau
Lucic-Janko-Frolik

I think this gives us some really balanced lines.

I'd sit Frolik for Rieder at this point. Heck I'd even sit Janko for Rieder and that's before considering Czarnik's return.
