I think the biggest positive of the high meat diet, was the low carbs. I don't think there's anything especially evil about carbs, but they are a concentrated source of calories, that most people just don't need. Carbs don't provide much other nutrition other than calories, so you don't lose much by cutting down on them either.

Also, I did a sober January one year...weight melted off too. That's partially a carb thing and partially a lifestyle thing.

Just to try it and see what it's all about, Im on day 2.5 and Im so bloated and gassy... wtf. Is it the extra fiber? and if so will it stop? this is terrible.

I really don't get why people need to be so extreme.

Like maybe just eat a bit of both things?

Load up on the water, drink at least 3 liters a day and that will go away soon.Sometimes the added fiber can do that if your not used to a high fiber diet.

Could just be what it is you're eating. I get that way if I'm eating a lot of tofu, but totally fine with other foods. It's not the same for everyone. Different gut bacteria etc. You probably need to experiment a bit and pay attention to how some different foods make you feel so that you can find what's making you so bloated and what makes you feel good.

It's all about your microbiome. Basically, you haven't had a lot of fiber in your diet before, so the bacterial composition of your gut is low on those bacteria that feast on fiber. That leads to incomplete digestion and slow movement. Your gut will limit water absorption in order to move the material along, so you feel bloated. Extra water will help temporarily.

It will probably take a month (or maybe even two) consistently being on that diet for your microbiome to significantly change to the new diet.

Adding a prebiotic supplement will help digestion. But that too might take some getting used to.

If you are eating beans, legumes etc try some beano. Made a world of difference for me.
