TORONTO – The Canadian Football League has unveiled an innovative idea that gives its fans a unique opportunity to have their names forever etched in Grey Cup glory: the Grey Cup Fan Base.

“The Grey Cup Fan Base is our way of recognizing that our fans are, in so many ways, the foundation upon which this great league and the legend of the Grey Cup stand,” said Randy Ambrosie, Commissioner of the CFL.

Fans can have their names inscribed forever on a permanent new base – a beautiful, 48-inch high tribute to CFL fans crafted from Canadian maple and aluminum – upon which the iconic Grey Cup trophy will be placed at all its public appearances.

“When COVID-19 forced us to cancel the 2020 season, we said we are absolutely committed to making 2021 the greatest comeback in the history of the CFL,” Ambrosie said.

“Fans asked us, as they have throughout the pandemic: ‘How can we help?’ The Grey Cup Fan Base is a wonderful way to help our league, and your team, come back stronger than ever. It’s an incredible opportunity to show your pride in our storied history and your faith in our bright future.“

CFL season ticket members get the first chance to enshrine their names, or those of a beloved fellow fan they choose to honour, in Grey Cup history starting today for a fee of $349. Their exclusive window continues until August 30th at 11:59 p.m. ET . After that date, other fans can take advantage of the same opportunity for $399.
Good luck with this, Randy

It’s on the expensive side but is otherwise an excellent idea. Or at least on the right track. They should have dozens of opportunities like this. Makes fans part of the game while minimizing the selling out to advertisers. Rather have tiny fan names than a Sobeys logo.

NFL cuts today

Packers release Begelton
Dolphins release Holley

Still a chance to get picked up on the practice roster. Tre Roberson was released earlier due to injury.

On a happier note, Alex Singleton makes the Eagles active roster

that is unfortunate, was rooting for these guys to make it down there.

This must keep BLM and Reilly up at night. Much like it would in bygone years for DD, dunigan Allen ray and calvillo.

Don’t mean to take anything away from streveler but just the fact of how his style gets him on a roster in the NFL while these other guys get offers to hold the clipboard.

Yeah, Streveler has a unique skillset that will get him on the field. People see Taysom Hill in New Orleans and will try to emulate that. He’s not there to be the next Drew Brees.

NFL updates:

Begelton joins Packers practice roster

Also Marken Michel was cut by the Panthers but ends up on their practice roster. Tevaughn Campbell also made the Chargers 53-man roster.

Other cuts:

Wynton McManis (Saints)
DeShaun Amos (Packers)

EDIT: former Stamps OL Brett Jones on Vikings practice roster

Seeing the posts in this thread this week has definitely made me feel better in knowing I’m not alone feeling a little empty and lost today. This is normally one of my favourite days of the year that I look forward to all summer, feeling a little extra heartbroken today about not having a season this year.

It definitely feels weird without the LDC. When I was playing hockey overseas I would go to the LDC and then fly out the next day with a decent hangover. My favorite memory as a kid was Garcia going off for over 500 yards and Edmonton fans in shambles because they thought they had a shot to win the game with Flutie out of the line up.

As a kid, and even up to university, the LDC, either being there or on TV, was the official end of summer. School started usually the next day so it was like a last minute Summer treat, and when the game was over, the despair and anxiety was real.

I went to the Stamps Store at McMahon today because I heard they were having a sale, and also just out of boredom. Was very pleased to see people there with their tailgate setups, grilling, enjoying Labour Day as much as possible.

Warmed my heart and gave me so much hope for the league
