I'd love a place to live and eat for $170 a month.

And in the case of sponsored foreign nannies, you are not allowed to deduct any room and board charges. From the link posted above: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-...itions.html#ab

Maximum deductions room and board
When room and board is provided by the employer, it must be at no cost to the foreign caregiver, as per the policy under the TFWP.

Just got the go-ahead from my wife to start looking at a live-in nanny.
Do I need to engage an agency? I was thinking that there is likely quite a few foreign nannies who have been let go by their employers in the last year or so...
Was hoping to avoid the LMIO and flight cost.. Plus, I'd like to be able to interview them in person.

Wouldn't they leave Canada quickly if they lost their position here?

Be careful. Our last nanny quit at the end of September when she went to a new family who paid her more. Didn't even tak to us about it.

Yeah maybe? I don't know. They likely would want to stay if they could get another job...

I wouldn't want someone who is content working for minimum wage minus deductions looking after my kids.

That's why you get the Philipino nanny straight from Hong Kong, who is thrilled to work for minimum wage, because it represents a four-fold increase, while also working half the hours she is used to...

Somewhat unrelated question, where do the wonderful Filipino TFW's live? I'm talking about the excellent people that work at Tim's etc. Do their employers provide housing for them? I've been hesitant to ask to not appear nosy but I think next time I'm in a fast food establishment I will inquire. I would trade 5 Canadians for 1 Filipino's any day of the week, they are great people across the board.

Your options are: free (one of the parents or grandparents), a nanny or a daycare worker.
Daycare workers aren't making much more than minimum wage either.

just wanted to bump this thread, as we are thinking about going the nanny route.
Are there any tips on where to start looking?

Bump, anyone able to update.
We found a sponsored Nanny who is in Airdrie right now, and just lost her employer, but not sure if we need to do a new application etc.

It is crazy what nannies are getting right now. Top ones are going for $20/hr (or $80K a year since most are asking for under the table arrangements to not jeopardize CERB)
Factor in CERB (albiet it supposed to end in July) and you get to $140K a year.

I just read through most of a thread about nannies from 3 years ago. And my kids are 19 and 15. I need a better hobby.

How does $20/hour get to 80k/year and an extra $2,000/month(CERB) add 60k?

Are people really hiring nannies who are lying to collect CERB while working? What a trustworthy person to put in charge of your kids.

There are many workers (especially the ones who are making minimum wage at your fast food joints) are making arrangements with their employer to withhold wages so that they can still get CERB. I don't blame them, because their regular salary works out to be just a tad over $2000 a month. There is no incentive for them to actually go to work if they will be losing the CERB.
This is actually my rant. If the $2000 CERB works out to be around $12.50 per hour, why would someone who is making $15 per hour want to go risk their life and work their ass off while they can sit at home and do nothing and still make like 90% of what they used to get. There is no incentive to do so. You are blaming people to be lazy, but the math doesn't favour them to forego the CERB and go to work instead....
