Default Nash to Boston

Rick Nash’s long tenure in the Big Apple has come to an end. The Boston Bruins have acquired the veteran forward from the New York Rangers in exchange for a package that includes forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey and a 2018 first round draft pick.

The Rangers will also acquire defence prospect Ryan Lindgren and a 2019 seventh round draft pick in the trade.

Per Elliot Friedman

Quote:
Deal is looking like this: Beleskey, Spooner, Lindgren and a first for Nash. Salary is retained on both Nash (50 per cent) and Beleskey

Why would one pay for Rick Nash nowadays? Crazy imo.

I don't love the return for NYR. Beleskey is a write-off. Spooner had a bad year last year and is playing only marginally better this year. Spooner may benefit from a change of scenery. Ryan Lindgren was a decent D prospect and fairly highly thought of in his draft year. His second year in college hasn't shown the development that they thought he'd show in terms of growth. He has played in the WJC though, so he must be of decent caliber.

I like the trade for both but Boston got a much needed forward for very little.

Seems like a lot for a guy who disappears in playoff time..... shooting percentage is like half of what he has in regular season. Boston is taking a swing though.

I think this is great for NY.

Spooner is a very good young player. He scores the equivalent of 46 points / 82 gp. The puck goes in the right direction when he is on the ice. He is 26. His contract is a very reasonable 2.8.

Plus they get a 1st.

They take on Beleskey, but then they get Lindgren and a 7th do do that. Plus, Boston retains 1/2 of Belsekey’s contract so 1.9 M becomes easy buy out territory if they want.

They take 1/2 of Nash’s contract, but he’s a UFA at the end of this season so it barely affects them.

Love it.
