Seen a few people down on Hathaway lately. What's wrong with his play?

He probably shouldn't be on anywhere but the 4th line, but that's not his fault.

He seems like a quality 4th line winger to me. He's always involved physically and he's impactful. He's got more skill than the typical 4th line banger too. Can play some decent hockey.

Not sure what more people want from him.

He was really fighting the puck in the Arizona game, something we've seen for the past couple of weeks more often than not.

I don't expect him to dangle his way up the ice, but he's literally been losing it off his stick in a straight line.

Fighting it.

Not writing him off, but the Hathaway that kept Jagr on the fourth line hasn't been seen in a while.

I'm not outraged about the Glass recall. A guy in his position is going to sit most games anyway. It may as well be a veteran and not a youngster that would be better served getting a lot of ice time in Stockton.

Huska was on the Fan960 the other day and raved about Glass. He could not have been more complimentary - he spoke of his work ethic and his leadership and how it had been so good for the kids playing down there to see that from a veteran.

I think he's actually a good guy to have around in that role and he could draw in if you're playing a team with a Zac Rinaldo type or the actual Zac Rinaldo in the lineup.

Default Flames recall Glass and Mangiapane. Lomberg sent to Stockton. Mike Smith on IR

I have irrationally high hopes for Mangiapane. Even with both his line mates promoted he kept producing in the AHL. I feel like if they put him and Janko together with a proven winger for a while — maybe even Tkachuk — that they’d find their way. Here’s hoping.

We've had a few bottom line guys having off games... if Glass steps in for one or two and plays like he did in the pre-season it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Hope we get a better look at Mangiapane, would be nice to see him burry one and get some confidence.

There is no doubt IMO that Treliving trades for a forward. Or 2. It is a question of when.

It's been two whole weeks now since Smith was injured. So much for it not being that bad; though could be worse I suppose.

It's turning out to be as bad as it looked. But yeah not sure why the Flames would take that route and say it was day to day, maybe there's more to it.

Good time to find out what we have with Rittich and Gillies, sink or swim.

If they are looking to trade for a goalie, its probably not a good idea to announce that your starting goalie is completely destroyed.

I mean, other GM's probably have a better idea than the public about Smith's outlook, but it would only hurt Treliving's position to announce it.

Plus it might be day to day.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If Treliving is approaching anyone kicking tires on a goalie, they all know Smith is out. So it doesn't really matter what the team does or doesn't say about him. It's common knowledge he's hurt and I think GMs can put two and two together.

They brought up Jankowski and he stayed. They brought up Hathaway but he's really regressed. The Jagr experiment failed.

Now they don't have much available to them.

Mangiapane will be fine, but he didn't exactly kick the door down the last time he was in Calgary.

I like the way that Foo has adjusted but it's a stretch to think he's NHL ready now when he just found his AHL legs.

Another wave coming in Phillips and Dube, so there's that. Maybe they get D'Artagnon and Rucizka to continue to develop and add some size.

But they're thin on forward depth and it's showing with Ferland hurt/faltering.
At the risk of beating a dead horse and derailing the thread. . . .

The lack of forward prospects was clear as day in the offseason, yet Treliving doles out significant assets to bring in a defenseman (Hamonic), when defensive depth at both the NHL and prospect level was the strongest part of the organization.

Continues to boggle my mind.

Does the fact the Mangiapane is at 9 games have any relevance for UFA or entry level deal status?

Defence was a hole too. Look at the d without Hamonic
It is hardly mind boggling

No. He's over 20 and waiver exempt, so none of those things should matter.

I'm assuming these two will be going back to Stockton? Making room for Stewart and Shore.

Probably were sent down so they stay eligible for the AHL.

They don't need to be sent down to make room for Stewart and Shore as the 23 man roster limit was lifted.

Aside from Kulak, who made the team, there are a total of three young defencemen who could have made the team in the AHL. One was Wotherspoon, who has tried and not succeeded. One is Kylington who is nowhere near ready, and one is Rasmus who is closer, but not ready for a number four role, if any role at all. Those players, and Fox and Valimaki, aren't going to be impactful for quite some time.

As for forward prospects, Treliving brought in Foo, who didn't do as well as expected, and when he and Mangiapane didn't perform that well in camp, signed Jagr.
