Poirier can't bury on a clear cut breakaway from the redline. Kinda like Stajan's breakaway last night against Dallas. He had the goalie beat but the puck jumped on him as went to backhand it into the open net. 3-1 Heat still.

Goaltending the difference in this one. Heat get outshot 28-15 and win 3-1. Rittich was fantastic. Looked like a big league goalie. Calm, composed and totally under control.

Keep starting Rittich. Don't over play him but he should be considered the #1 goalie for the length of time he can sustain this hot streak. I'll be disappointed if Rittich starts fewer than 20 games this season. He is deserving of the bulk of starts.

Vey should be the next player recalled. His drive needs to be rewarded. Eat Bread is not finding it difficult to transition to the pros. That's exciting - can't wait to see how far he can go.

Just saw Rittich is listed as 6"3, 165 that is more stick like than even Matt Murray.

AHL site has him listed at 6'3" 200lbs
EP has him at 6'3" 203lbs
Wiki has him at 6'4" 200lbs

I'm thinking HockeyDB isn't up to date.

His line hasn't dominated without Hathaway or Frattin at RW imo. I would like to see Klimchuk-Jankowski-Frattin be a thing.

I'll be seeing a few games this year. I'm a sharks fan, but Stockton is a lot closer than SJ. Lots of prospects on SJ (for a change) worth watching. I see the heat are in first place - who should I be watching? Which guys are likely to make it to the big club?

PS - and whatever happened to that adorable mascot that got in trouble for killing a fireman? Is he still around?

Gillies
Ritich
Kylington
Andersson
Jankowski
Klimchuk
Mangiapane

All have better than average chance to make the team and probably the most exciting prospects ATM.

Honourable mention to Poirier and Pribyl.

Scorch the mascot was the Adirondack Flames mascot for a couple of days. Sadly they didn't resurrect him after the team moved to Stockton.

Shinkaruk scores (empty netter) assisted by Hunter Smith

Makes it 4-0 with 37 seconds left in the game.

Gillies with a shutout!!!! His first since October 2015. SJ really tried to take it from him in the 3rd, but he stood tall.

This is Stockton's first win in the SAP center. The Barracuda owned them completely last season.

Kisker points out that at the 20 game mark Stockton has as many shutouts as all of last season.

4-0 Heat Final.

3 stars

3. Smith (1g+1a)
2. Jankowski (1g+1a)
1. Gillies (31 save shutout)

Awesome to see Gillies doing well.

Does anyone know much about Rittich? I remember the signing and not really caring at the time - just thought it was a decent way for the Flames to fill out their AHL roster. But as time goes on, it looks like Rittich could have an NHL future.

How did the Flames find him? His stats in the Czech league don't really stand out, but clearly the Flames saw something in him.

While his numbers in the Czech league don't blow you away he was tied for 4th in SV% and was 14th in GAA (4 of the guys ahead of him played fewer than 20 games), he had struggled the season before as a rookie and in the Czech-2 league he had been phenomenal for a couple years prior to that. You'd have to think that progression, combined with his age made him stand out to the Flames scouts.

Seems to me that Smith is playing a more rounded out game. He seems to be more involved in the offensive end.

IMO a long shot. I'd even pick Caroll, Lomberg, and Karnaukhov to make it as fourth liners ahead of him.
