Default Life on iOS is about to get a whole lot better: Adobe releases HTML 5 conversion tool

Quote:
Following a preview in 2010, Adobe has finally released a pre-release version of their ‘Wallaby’ Flash-to-HTML5 file conversion software. The software is easy for developers to use and allows developers to drag and drop their Flash content into an Adobe Air application that will then convert it to HTML5 code.
This is the final step in a coexistence between Apple and Adobe moving forward. Both sides have made concessions (more Adobe than Apple), and the end user is going to benefit for sure.

There's still a lot of unsupported Flash features. You can see a list here:

It will be interesting to see how well the code that their tools generates performs compared to the original Flash.

ActionScript 1,2 Unsupported

Yeah, thanks Adobe. Some great work there. It is essentially worthless to convert anything other than a simple repeating timeline animation which is brain dead easy to do in html 5 anyways. Adobe not winning.

I can't figure out how this makes me feel. They are taking something quite complicated and converting into something quite complicated. I'm not sure how smooth that process can go, but I'm excited to see. Smart move by Adobe to stay relevant though.

Yikes, didn't see that.

I can't possibly see a use for it then ...

The focus for this initial version of Wallaby is to do the best job possible of converting typical banner ads to HTML5 and supported Webkit browsers include Chrome and Safari on OSX, Windows, and iOS.

Converting banner ads from Flash to HTML5... now that's a technological oxymoron.

It's good they're taking the first steps to finally dumping their horrible plugin though. This could potentially be the best of both worlds.

Well... the article I read definitely failed to mention how useless this is. Nevermind I guess. Lame.

It's still something. Hopefully this is just step 1. It shows that Adobe at least has HTML5 on the radar. Sure it's purely for advertisements at the moment, but at least it's there.
