He may be on line 2 but with the amount of ice time that line got today they might as well be line 4

I think he looks good on the 4th line and out of place anywhere else. Lines 2-4 are odd, but we've won two in a row so what do I know.

Ritchie had some good moments on the 4th line vs the ducks. I know Darryl likes the guy, but he really needs to stop slotting him so high up the line up. He’s the kryptonite to any skill-first line. Just instantly makes them worse. Keep him on the 4th line as a sparse energy guy, nothing wrong with that role at all.

Ritchie is fine as a 12th guy/fourth line forward.

But the big issue now is the lines themselves ... seems like they are trying to create three 3rd lines instead of a 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

I think the way the lines are constructed they're not getting the most out of any of Coleman, Monahan, Dube or Mangiapane.

Honestly makes no sense to me.

So yeah I'd say Ritchie is playing too far up the lineup but I don't even know where in the lineup he's playing

Agree 100%

They need the top 9 forwards to be the top 9. And then have a 4th line.

But I think Sutter is still trying to get some guys going, and into shape

I’m going to say right now I don’t disagree. But I’m also not a 2 time cup winning coach who is known for getting the most out of the least with his players. In Sutter I trust.

From what Sutter's been saying to the press, he hasn't seen enough out of any line combination after the first. On top of that, Pitlick and Monahan are still getting their timing back after extremely limited preseason play. So it looks like he's really going with a 1st line and three 4ths until people step up. Mangiapane has definitely stepped up, but he needs a centreman to earn the spot beside him before you can talk about a definitive 2nd line.

So you might as well say that whichever line Ritchie is on is the de facto 4th line that night. He's played a total of about 31 minutes and hasn't cost the team anything important, so I'm not complaining about his usage until some other forwards separate themselves from the pack. I take it for granted that he will be one of those left behind.

Disagree.

Who does Mike Gould think should replace them? Philips? Who looked awful in pre season and has the body of a 12 year old?

I don’t mind Ritchie… on the 4th line.
I think soon enough the lines will work them selves into more of what we expect in our top 9, and he will be bumped down to the 4th line.
But then again, Sutter is the coach so who knows!?

I think some of you are in for a surprise when Pitlick gets up to game speed. He is a very good defensive forward.

Out of the 4 of those players Ritchie should be odd man out followed by Pitlick. Richardson is an upgrade on all of them when healthy. Looch is looking awful in his first 4 games
