I feel like teams will mail it in against the Flames from time to time...the size plus the Sutter work ethic...will it really be worth the 2 points on a friday night or just save it for the run and gun the next night in Edmonton.

I knew Treliving was a bad GM after his repeated terrible FA signings and complete inaction to address the scoring issues for 2+ years, but these recent moves (Richardson, Stone and Gudbranson) put him squarely in the worst GM in the league position.

The Flames are in BIG trouble for the foreseeable future with this guy running the show.

It's all the contract.

If Gudbranson was $1M that would have been fine. That's why Stone is fine at $750k.

But to give him $2M is what the major headscratcher is. The guy is a physical 6/7 d-man, that is a RH shot. Provides very little of anything else.

Did Treliving just watch 'Moneyball' and is trying to replace Giordano in the aggregate? Because thats not how it works.

Really? Don't you think you're overreacting about a few depth signing on 1 year contracts. You don't think other moves like bringing in OEL and Keith on much longer term deals are much worse moves?

Pro: With all these large adds, this will be a fun team to play as in NHL 22.
Con: This isn't NHL 22

You wanted Darryl, you're getting Darryl.

And I suspect that's what Treliving is going to say to ownership when they fire him and he's trying to deflect the blame.

Using up valuable cap space that might have been put towards an actual impact player is just idiotic roster management. We have capable players under contract that can do the job of these bums that aren't over the hill retreads.

Instead he clearly struck out again on making an impact move and decided to try and gain value be accumulating a bunch of assets nobody else in the league wants. Just awful.

Darryl didn't tell him to overpay a 7th d man by 1.3 million.

Guddy!

Love it!

Toughest team in the league no doubt.

Lose all the games, win all the fights!

Never have I disliked a signing as much as this one.

And that is a hard thing to say for a team with the history of the Calgary Flames.

It's harder to acquire these actual impact players than people think. Once again there are teams doing desperate things like acquiring 38 year old Duncan Keith.

Coleman was likely the biggest fish out there that the Flames could get. The only other UFA that was clearly a bigger deal was Dougie Hamilton, and he's not coming back here.

Not a huge fan of Gudbranson, but it's a one year deal. Without Gaudreau re-signed, the plan may be to blow it up, and this signing doesn't interfere with that, so I'm good.

Stone, Richardson, Lewis, Ritchie signings are irrelevant to our cap space. They are signed between $750k to $900k with no impact to our cap if they are put on waivers and sent to the farm team.

They are actually okay depth signings that all play a role and fit Sutter's signing.

Gudbranson though....that's just a bad signing that is about $1M too much. No reason to give him anything more than $1M.

Let's put it another way. When everyone and their dog knew the Flames needed to make changes, they probably didn't mean losing their #1 dman to expansion and replacing him with Coleman, Zadorov, and swapping out a whole bunch of spare parts with more expensive, older, slower spare parts.

This team is going to lose a lot of games, but not enough games to matter. This team is awful in all the wrong ways.
