Stone doesn’t really need a PTO for any kind of assessment on how he plays. The Flames know what they have in him I think. But I suppose he could use one to show off to other teams that he still can play.

They gave him a PTO last off season which seemed kind of odd as they knew what they had then too. I think its just a weird formality they have to go through.

I suppose he could have binge eaten his way through the summer.

I strongly suspect it’s Calgary or bust for him.

Strauss Mann is an interesting goalie prospect. Played for Michigan last year and left school to go pro. He just signed in Sweden.

I am not sure if we have space for another goalie in the system though.

I figured they were giving him a chance to see if another team would make a bigger offer for him, doing him a solid.

Interesting player. Same size as Wolf though. Quit school to turn pro, yet ends up in Sweden.

Keith Petruzzelli was another one. Decided not to sign with Detroit. Headed to the Bruins Development Camp.

Flames I'm guessing are fine with Werner and the two raw kids.

I like Janko but I wouldn't use the word hustle to describe him

And quite literally cannot sing anymore....though yes he has the covid pounds like few others.

He was heckled and walked off the stage at a show in Texas in June iirc.

To bad too as that tour they were going to team up with Def Leppard and Poison would have been a blast to see.

As for PTO guys, i dont know if he would settle for one or would require a contract first, but Gustaffson is still kicking around i believe and could be a guy to boost the offense from the defense argument....though im guessing he has to be sheltered a bit and this club under Sutter may not have room for such a type of player

I expect they will sign Stone to a one year contract.

Players on PTO's aren't typically paid well.

Well some of these guys end up making more than players like Gawdin, Ruszicka, Mackey and Philips would make and typically end up offering nothing better than replacement level play.

Would you rather have a young player fighting to earn a role in the NHL making $750-$900k or some plug who is playing out the tail end of their career?

The Flames have gone the plug route almost every year and I'd say it certainly isn't helping them get over the hump.

I want to play the kids, but it would be pretty negligent to count on them without the backup of a few PTOs in case they flunk out of camp. Plus you often need some PTOs to satisfy veteran requirements on exhibition games.

Small, slow (relative to his size), and repeated injuries are catching up to him.

The Flames could use a PP specialist, but Sutter is going to hate Vatanen.

Last year there was a Russian player called Konstantin Okulov that the Habs and Leafs both offered a contract to, but he instead chose to sign a 1-year deal in Russia because he felt his team was close to a championship.

I can't seem to find any news on him now, but he put up decent numbers in the KHL. Might be worth a look if he is still thinking of making the jump to the NHL.
