Default Day 10 (PM of August 1 - AM of August 2)

I'm posting early again because I'm golfing this morning and I know I'll need a nap in the afternoon. As always check the CBC Website for streaming links as well as CBC Gem and the CBC Olympics app.

Men’s Hammer Throw Qualification starts at 18:00. Round 1 of the Women’s 1500m begins at 18:35, Gabriela DeBues-Stafford is in the first heat. Natalia Hawthorn is in Heat 2, Lucia Stafford is in Heat 3. Men’s Long Jump Final is 19:20. The Women’s 200m Heats start at 19:30, Crystal Emmanuel is in Heat 6. The Final of the Women’s 100m Hurdles starts at 20:50

At 19:00 Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes have their Round of 16 match, I think this will be on SN or SN1.

At 18:30 the Women’s K1 200m Sprint begins and I think it should be on TSN2. Andreanne Langlois is in Heat 3, Michelle Russell is in Heat 5. The Quarterfinals will begin at 21:00.

At 19:05 the Men’s C2 1000m Sprint Heats begin. Roland Varga and Connor Fitzpatrick are in Heat 1. The Quarterfinals are scheduled for 21:21.

At 19:21 the Men’s K1 1000 Heats begin, Simon McTavish is in Heat 1. The Quarterfinal races will start at 21:37.

At 20:08 the Women’s K2 500m Heats start, Alanna Bray-Lougheed and Madeline Schmidt are in Heat 4. At 22:08 the Quarterfinals are scheduled to begin.

At 20:30 the Women’s Freestyle 68kg Round of 16 begins. Danielle Lappage from Olds, is the 6th match scheduled and should begin around 21:05.

The Women’s Doubles Badminton Bronze Medal Match starts at 22:00. The Gold Medal Match is scheduled for 22:50.

At 23:35 Race 9 in the Men’s 470 Sailing starts, Canadians Jacob Saunders and Oliver Bone are currently ranked 16th.

At 00:00 the Preliminary Round of the Men’s 3m Springboard Diving begins, Cedric Fofana is the Canadian diver. I think this will be on TSN5.

At 00:54 the Women’s Cycling Track Team Pursuit Qualification begins. The First Round starts at 01:50. The Finals are at 03:00.

At 02:00 it is a rematch of the epic 2012 Olympic Semifinal in Women’s Soccer as Canada takes on the United States. I think that it will be on either CBC or SN1. Can’t wait to see who the ref is this time.

At 02:02 the Men’s Cycling Track Team Pursuit Qualification starts.

At 04:20 the Women’s Pole Vault Qualification begins, Alysha Newman is in Group A, Anicka Newell is in Group B. At 04:25 the Women’s 200m Semifinals start. The Women’s Discus Throw Final starts at 05:00. At 05:05 the Semifinals in the Men’s 400m start. Sage Watson of Medicine Hat competes in the first race of the Women’s 400m Hurdles Semifinals at 05:35. The Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Final is at 06:15, Matt Hughes tries to improve on his 10th place finish in Rio, John Gay is also running for Canada. At 06:40 the Women’s 5000m Final begins, Andrea Seccafien races for Canada. Morning Athletics Events should be on CBC.

At 04:30 the Preliminary Round of the Women’s Artistic Duet Swimming starts. Calgarian Claudia Holzner and Jacqueline Simoneau are the Canadian competitors.

At 05:00 the Men’s Singles Badminton Bronze Medal Match begins. The Gold Medal Match starts at 05:50.

Also at 05:00 the second Semifinal in Women’s Soccer begins with Australia and Sweden facing each other.

Throughout the night there's plenty of other action to watch I didn't include like basketball, volleyball, shooting, and wrestling!

Thanks for providing this, super helpful!! I guess no more swimming events..

With all the athletes leaving once they are done, are they planning on doing a closing ceremony?

Yep, there’s still a closing ceremony. And there’s the open water swimming stuff still to come, but last night was the last for the pool

The referee for the Canada-USA game will be Kateryna Monzul of Ukraine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kateryna_Monzul

She'd very experienced and considered one of the best so I don't think there will be any funny business. She's reffed since the 2007 women's world cup. She refs in the Ukrainian men's league.

She reffed the opening game back in Edmonton at the 2015 World Cup. Canada got a penalty to beat China 1-0 And the reffed the final in Vancouver which USA defeated Japan 5-2.

What are Canada’s chances against the USA? Would be nice to win a major title with this being Sinclair’s likely last kick at the can.

Well the bettings odds are +400 for Canada to win, but I think Canada has better chances than that. The American team has not particularly looked great this tournament.

US is probably the better team, but they haven't looked as sharp this tourney as they have other times.

In all of sport, is there a single team anywhere that's as unlikeable as the US womens soccer team? I almost hope they lose more than we win.

That is +400 to win in 90 minutes. It's +240 to advance. US is favored about 65 to 35.

It is hard to imagine there’s any team that would top them.

Dumb story alert. A few years ago I was in New Orleans for business trip and the hotel lobby was packed with young girls and their Moms. Maybe a few Dads too. I didn’t know why and assumed there was someone like Justin Bieber staying there. Ended up taking the elevator down with some members of the USWNT who were on their way to a friendly at the Superdome.

I was shocked at the crowd there just to catch a glimpse of these athletes and TBH it kind of changed my perspective. Hard not to respect the impact they have had.

A toxic impact. They’re easily one of the least likeable teams in sports. Unless you’re a fan of frivolous lawsuits and obnoxious behaviour.

Wait, that explains perfectly why Americans love them so much.

It's a brand. People love the USA Womems team. But separate the players and put them in league uniforms and nobody cares.

This gave me a good chuckle at least.

Brand, players, whatever. Just pointing out their popularity which I really don’t think is either toxic or based on their negatives.

That was incredible. Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands trips over in the 1500 quali on last lap and still comes back to win the heat.

Nice runs from the Stafford sisters in the 1500 heats.

How bad would she have killed the field if she didn’t fall?

Pavana and Humana-Paredes win in straight sets, two Canadian teams in the Quarterfinals!

Wow. That 18 year old from Namibia's closing speed was incredible.

I don't want to derail but the policing of women's testosterone levels in the Olympics is bonkers.
