Just speculation, but it's probably a combination of where the Monte Carlo tourney falls on the schedule, his current health and what does he actually have to gain at this point in his career? He is currently on the entry list for Madrid, so he's probably gearing up his training and preparation for that tourney.

What a tourney for Kovinic, Leylah arguably gave her the toughest match of the week and since beating the Canadian, she has victories over Kvitova, Putintseva, and Jabeur. She awaits the winner of Badosa and Kudermetova in the Sunday final.
