an 8 year Johnny deal would take him to almost 37, pretty close.

I have trouble seeing a guy with a 76 point career high getting 9+ per year

Its not a bad contract it is actually fair but you might be a little biased here IMO

Trying to think of forwards that have never hit 80 points making over 9M

Jeff Skinner?

Selke winner who puts up 75 pts a year?

Yeah...i think 9 and change a season is very likely on an open market.

Dude is a GREAT hockey player......and term is just a thing every team has to include any more. That sise of the business has changed for good.

Who said he wasn't a great player

Forwards who are making 9+ who have never put up 80 points was the question...there are very few.

75 a points year? he has done it twice in 10 seasons you can't just say he is going to do that every year.

Contract is good as is...not sure I would give him 9 or 10 but neither did they so.

IMO this is a massive discount for the Flyers. Like you could justify paying a guy like Couturier $9million, based on other contracts. They've had such a wild offseason.

Well, you could easily justify that next year. I'm not sure you could justify anything of the sort when he's 35, much less the next three seasons. So that's why they get the discount.

If they're lucky though and he ages like Bergeron, well, this will work out great.

Not when you are a spectacular 200 foot player.

The reference to Jeff Skinner is laughable. They have nothing in common.

He's the type of player we dreamed Monny would be.

He has scored at an excellent clip since he got moved off the third line used to shut down the other teams best players.

And in the last two seasons he has scored at a 76 and 70 point pace, so really 4 years running when used on the top 6.

He's likely considered better than Johnny if Johnny was getting 90 points. Defence matters.

There is no question that $7.75M is great value for Couturier at this point.

What makes the contract 'fair' is the final 2 or 3 years. Post 35, he is very likely to be no where near a 70 pt player. He got term to 38 in order to take a lower cap hit. Fair for player and team.

Gio's contract is a good comparable. We got a #1 defenseman for $6.75M, knowing that the last couple years would be bad value (traded term for AAV). Turned out that we got a Norris trophy winner, so it was a steal.

If Couturier plays like Bergeron for a few years, this will be a steal. If he plays like he has to date, it's s good contract, if his offence dries up in his early 30s, then it was a bad deal.

Good contract, but I don't think it is a massive discount. With the drop in revenues and flat cap, I think teams are being a little smarter (except the oilers, lol) with these contracts. Couturier, Landeskog have pretty good cap numbers but longer term. I think this should help the Flames in negotiating with Johnny for sure.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
