Well deserved. His work in the community is really admirable and sets a great precedent for the kids, as Gio mentioned Iggy set the tone for him previously.

Mark Messier can go eat a bag of.....Lay's Potato Chips. You know what I mean.

I propose we rename the 'Mark Messier Leadership Award' to the 'Mark Giordano Leadership Award.'

It'll be cheap, we just scratch out and re-engrave the last name.

Not to downplay the award, but how is the Messier Trophy different than the King Clancy?

One is official and the other one comes out of a Cracker Jack box?

Clipped from another article:

Quote:
The Mark Messier Leadership Award is presented annually to the player who "exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season.” The award is given out by Mark Messier, who chooses the finalists and winner himself.

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy, voted on by a panel from the Pro Hockey Writers’ Association and NHL broadcasters, goes to the player “who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community.”

Ah yes. The award for the most Selfish Jerkface.

I wonder how many times Corey Perry has won that one.

Congrat's to Mark Giordano for the award.

The only issue I have is should be the Bobby Clarke Leadership Award, honour the greatest leader.

I'd say congratulations were in order but this is a meaningless award handed out by a jackass. It would have been a lot funnier - and totally appropriate - for Gio to respond by saying, "I don't really care about what Mark Messier thinks. He's not in our room. My teammates' recognition is the only thing that matters to me."

In sum, #### Mark Messier and his silly award.

The only thing I remember my dad telling me was that every time Messier sneezed in the 80s it cost him 50 dollars.

I'll never understand how there is a Messier award but no Gretzky or Orr or Lemieux or Howe?

I'm guessing they're waiting for these guys to eventually pass away and then re-name some of the major awards after them? So there should be a Howe award soon?

It's because the "Messier Award" is not actually a NHL award.
