I agree it can be a win-win scenario for the flames tonight. But I just can’t bring myself to cheer for the oilers.

I took a quick look at the standings and Edmonton could very realistically be last in the western conference by the end of the week. Pretty much where they always are at the end of November.

haha, cheer for an oilers win...never. Go SJ all the way. We can battle all season long for 1st in the division, we don't need the oilers help.

Never cheer for the oilers.

I hope they lose every divisional game this year. The players looks so sad in interviews, they would be stupid to keep the coach, but it is the oilers so they will probably keep the coach.

This is fun.

I'd never cheer for the Oilers unless it's a game which would put them in and eliminate the Flames. I'd rather have the Sharks in first place in the division than Edmonton anywhere near a wild card spot.

Nothing is out of the question.
After three seasons in the new Rogers Place, a portion of luxury box leases will expire — the clients who signed three-year leases, as opposed to five- or seven-year buys, can walk away. It’s a nervous time, as ownership fears a backlash from folks who pay some of the highest prices in the entire NHL to see a team that flails.

That's the scary thing about Gulutzan as he like to roll all four lines.

I'm pining for a Gulutzan replacement as head coach. We can all speculate what happens here.

He sets forward lines based on LH/Center/RH, with Mcdavid/Drasaitl/RNH as the centers

He sets the D men based on RH LH shots

He sets Talbot as starter

He tells himself that, statistically speaking, it's the best way to go and NEVER changes it up no matter what, because we've all seen this movie before in HD and he has a track record with this strategy.

Edmonton craters.

Calgary cheers.

Freidman said yesterday that Katz has really tightened the purse strings in every aspect outside of hockey ops (i.e. the other parts of the business) but now it's starting to creep into the hockey side. I doubt he wants to pay a big money coach and McLellan. I think he keeps him at least another year. I imagine the only other option would be GG, and I bet he doesn't even get an increase if that happens. Or some other internal idiot.

For what though? So he can be burnt out by playoff time (haha)?

His roster is junk, but I don’t consider his constant deployment of McDavid to be intelligent player management.

which is hilarious when you look at their team. They'd have amazing depth if they were an AHL team, but in the NHL, not wo much. It must be seriously depressing when Alex Chiasson is your 4th best scorer.

Oh, I think the best part of Gretzky as coach would be clips of him signalling for the Beer Guy in the lower bowl instead of paying attention to the game.

Its damned if you do and damned if you dont. What other choice is there really?

He plays his 3 best players/only decent players on the same line because otherwise they've got nothing.

Frankly splitting up their centres is probably actually a smart move, just to try something to get secondary scoring. Defending Draisaitl and McDavid together is way easier. Their D are already split RH/LH except that they only have two RH shots so Russell has to pretend to be RH.

Talbot - I bet theny never bite the bullet and go with Koskinen completely. And if they do, I think he wilts.

Nothing GG could do, no matter how smart or dumb, is going to change the fact they are slow, untalented and disfunctional as a team. "Hey we drafted the fastest guy in the NHL. Let's build a grinding team".

It's my Birthday today. I want the Oilers to anoint Glen Gulutzan as head coach.

This is shaping out to be quite the year

Hartley is way cheaper.

But it seems moot now. I never thought about Hitch.

Well that came earlier than expected. No way this wasn't incoming, but I thought the STH were going to be the first to demand better with their wallets.

Also wonder what the tax-payer sentiment is after any downturn in profitability. So soon after getting their shiny new building, the dumps they're taking in it will draw an interesting breed of criticism and ire.

I agree, but instead of forcing the GM to address issues early (not like he can) you burn your players out for the time when you as a coach have to produce wins (in the playoffs).
