There is no way they don't promote Gulutzan when McLellan is fired.
They can't help themselves.

Do they really want Darryl, I mean he might get the work ethic out of him, but he's a bygone coach, can you see Connor being told to get his a$$ back into his own end or he'll get Sutter special up the pooper?
Or Draisaitl being told that he's a gutless puke that needs to stand on his own line and not leach off McDavid.
Darryl is certainly a hard a$$, but the players have to buy into his defensive first system and work their weaselly guts out or face the wrath of the Darryl.
That team doesn't have the character or work ethic to get Darryl to leave his farm to coach for them.
Darryl was losing touch with the modern game in LA, and he's certainly not a hugger.

I would presume Gulutzan was brought in so they have a former NHL coach ready to take over the reigns should MacLellan fail to get the Oilers to be a winning team.

Rolling 4 lines no matter what? On the Oilers? My lord. It will be massacre after massacre.

Can't wait to see the lineup GG creates which his square peg in a round hole mentality determined by the side a player shoots and rolling 4 lines.
Lucic-McDavid-Chiasson
Khaira-Neugent-Hopkins-Kassian (the KNK line)
Caggiula-Draisatl-Rattie
Rieder-Spooner-Brodziak
Klefbom L - Larsson R
Nurse L - Benning R
Russell L - ... there's no more R hand shooting defencemen??? Patrick Russel shoots R, Russell L - Russell R
Powerplay - Brouwer somehow makes it in the lineup.
Stanley Cup Bound.

Funny, except GG didn't really do that with forwards. Frolik and Ferland shoot left.

The only one who could hire Darryl is Katz, but last time I checked Darryl isn’t an ex-Oiler so that’s a non-starter.
The whole “it’s not if... is how...” has made me realize that they are set on winning championships with alumni deeply involved in the organization.
When you think about it, they’ve never broken the chain.
Sather->Lowe from 1979-> present.
They never will.
What else could Kevin Lowe possibly do to get fired?
He’s a lifer.

And GG hated every minute of it to the point where he put in Chris Stewart a waiver pickup on RW on the first line as soon as he became a Flame.
Chris Stewart

Meh. Everyone wanted to see Stewart there. GG moved him off pretty darn quick.
There's plenty to criticize GG about without making stuff up.

Sutter doesn't need to read this thread to see the problems in Edmonton. Until the old boys are moved out, nothing changes. Why would Sutter want anything to do with that dumpster fire?
Katz is not getting rid of all his boyhood heros.

Sutter would want a salary equal to T-Mac's I bet. That's a fair bit for a coach, when they'd still be paying T-Mac. I bet GG makes more than the average assistant too.
Then Katz is paying a bloated front office which includes two Gretzkys, a Lowe, a Mactavish, Nicholsen, Chia, Duane Sutter, Howson, and Bob Green.

Thinking about the story David Marcoux told when Darryl fired the puck at his head. Maybe that’s what the Oil need...?
Wait a second...
What am I thinking? Darryl can’t save them, no one can

I thought that way for a while as well, but as glorious as it would be to see Ol' Gul take the reins and totally bomb once again I think his lack of 'Being an Oiler in the '80s ' works against him.
So....Craig MacTavish come on down! You're the next contestant on 'Can You Dial Down the Suck?!?!'
