If I had to pick someone to blame between McLellan and Chia, it's Chia every time. What a doofus.

Shh! It's McLellan's fault, the Oilers must keep Chia, he's the guy responsible for drafting the best player to play in the last 20 years! Just fire McLellan, promote GG, hire his former assistant Cameron as special teams coach, and the Oilers will be drinking from the Cup this June!

Its Columbus who we owe the most gratitude to.

Van wanted a dman all along..

Edmonton was planning on taking a forward and until CLB shocked everyone by not taking Poolparty its anyone's guess who they would have picked.

Right, and what available coach would be considered an improvement?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see another MacTavish co-coach situation with Gulutzan. That would be hilarious.

Edmonton were rumored to be high on Sergachev. If they held to their plan they probably are better off. Instead Chia freaked when it went down and it was so unexpected that Poolparty didn't get a name bar, not even a cheap iron or tape on.

That is not what I heard. Van desperately wanted Dubois as did Montreal who was looking at getting that pick in a Subban trade. Did Van want Dubois for themselves or so they could trade for Subban ?(Din Jim admitted they were talking to the Habs about him at the time)

I had also heard Edmonton was high on Sergachev but also heard they liked Tkachuk so not sure which way they were going.

I retesting question to ponder.

Would you rather have Bennett and Tkachuk or Draisaitl and Puljujarvi?

An Edmonton man wants Oilers fans to dance while they cheer.

Are you ready for the #OilersCellyChallenge?

Oh yeah...I'd love to see the fans in the stands try that flip move. That cant possibly go wrong and I'm sure is completely compliant with safety and insurance.

It'd be a treat to watch some Oiler fans try that after a few beers. That would be more entertaining than the game.

Wow that's an interesting question.

I think Tkachuk is making a big move on Draisaitl this year, but if he doesn't the Oilers have the more productive player. If he does then the intangibles push things hard to Tkachuk's side.

The other two are disappointments to date, with Puujujarvi being younger and bigger so that has more value.

It's Edmonton right now, for sure.

But Tkachuk could push things the other way very very soon.

If we're talking about this year, you have Tkachuk and Bennett at $2.875M, versus $9.425M for the other two. I know which one I'd take.

Obviously that will change next year when Tkachuk signs a new deal, but as you mentioned, I think Tkachuk could be more valuable than Draisaitl in a year from now as well.

I'm betting we see a lot of clips that look like this:

I’m not sure any of that is true.

Biggest buzz out of Van was them wanting Dubois.
Heard after the draft that EDM May have taken Sergachev at 4.

There’s actually multiple scenarios in which we still end up with Tkachuk even if things did go down slightly differently. And if we didn’t get him we would’ve had a chance at Dubois or Sergachev.

In the end VAN biggest mistake was taking Juolevi over Sergachev. Taking a dman or centre always made the most sense for them. They had drafted tons of wingers in the first round leading up to that draft (Virtanen, Boeser, Shinkaruk, trading Shink for Baerstchi). Tkachuk didn’t make a ton of sense for them from a team building perspective.

Also the rumour out there that Kelkalanen (spelling) tipped his hat some way to Treliving, and with that Treliving backed away because they knew the dominos were going their way.

They were moving up to take Tkachuk (Steinberg) and then no longer needed to

I do wonder though if they were moving up to take Tkachuk because he was Edmonton's pick at #4 on the assumption that Puljujarvi would go #3?

Speaking of Puljujarvi, this is fun:

Is 'once considered a near equal talent to Laine' too long for a banner?

So the Oilers draw Halak tonight and Rask rests Monday to Saturday. Nice when your starter gets a 5 day break this early in the season.

Oilers fans are pretty nervous about the prospect of facing Halak, as apparently he tends to play Edmonton very well.
