Didn't see this posted anywhere.

But Encana's CEO packs up and moves to Denver.

http://business.financialpost.com/co...ide-relocation

Half of Encana's money is invested in the US in Shale operations, it seems logical that they will continue to invest in O+G in the more friendly US.

Even though they deny it, the fear is this is a precursor to Encana moving their head office operation to the States.

Also not exactly a strong denial

Quote:
Earlier this month, Ted Morton, a former minister of energy in Alberta, suggested in a Financial Post column that TransCanada Corp. is considering a move to Houston.

But the pipeline company has denied it.

“Respectfully, it is TransCanada’s corporate policy not to speculate on rumours and speculation and this would certainly fit those categories,” company spokesperson Mark Cooper said of a potential move.

It doesn't make sense for Encana to move their head office to the US. They have a 25 year lease on the Bow building costing over $80 million per year - not exactly easy to walk away from in the current market for commercial real estate. They also have the majority of their workforce here in Canada and continue to invest heavily into the Montney.

Apparently their workforce is 50/50 between Calgary and Denver right now, and although they are montney players they are seeing that dollars invested in the USA go a lot further than anti development Canada. The new tax laws in the us also help, they may look at the now lease as a sunk cost, or think they can break even with subletting.

I hadn't heard about trans Canada but it makes sense, I'd expect a pipeline company to headquarter in a place where, you know, they can actually build pipelines. This is the future that anti development, anti science extremists are making for our country.

Can't they keep 1/2 the workforce in Calgary, while also moving their corporate head office to Denver? Would they then pay corporate taxes in Colorado/US rather than Alberta/Canada?

The quote is TransCanada denying moving their head office, not Encana. I don’t think Encana is going anywhere for awhile. They’re in deep with The Bow.

They won't completely leave Canada but in my mind their head office is as good as gone. They're shifting more resources, both people and dollars, to the USA all the time. I have two friends who are engineers there that have been asked if they'd accept a transfer to Denver. Their CEO relocating to Denver is another sign of what's to come.

Lease or not they are already sub letting as much as they can. If push comes to shove they will make it work leaving Calgary. What is the benefit to stay if a pipeline doesn't get built.

As it is the Mar 26th deadline looms for Kinder Morgan to clear cut some trees before the next bird migration. The protesters are doing what they can to make sure they can't complete things in time. Which is another annoying part that the bc judge put a 5m distance for the protesters from the wotk sites. That is just asking for trouble. That isn't a message that kinder Morgan can do their thing.

Join us in Calgary on Friday to support construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and to send the message that every Canadian benefits from the economic prosperity that comes with a vibrant energy and resource sector nationwide.

(If you can’t make it please tell your friends)

It’s time to stand up and show your support; it’s time to make your voice heard!

When: 11:00 am, Friday, March 23, 2018

Where: 950 6 Ave SW #101, Calgary, AB

“Lead Now” is organizing negative protest so we must represent and hold our own positive rally!

The existing Trans Mountain pipeline has operated since 1953, without catastrophe and has the support of 51 First Nations.

If we can’t build new pipelines, Alberta and all of Canada stand to lose billions of dollars in government revenue that pays for police, firefighters, roads, hospitals, teachers, doctors, nurses and so much more.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs depend on the oil and gas sector in Alberta and across Canada. Canadians from coast to coast to coast work in oil and gas related businesses, while others come from across the country to make their livelihoods right here. But this isn’t just about Alberta, this is about Canadian families and Canadian government services from Vancouver Island to the Maritimes.

So please show your support for fair trade Canadian oil and gas produced to the best environmental standards on earth and representing the largest single contributor to Canada's economy. Now is the time! Let's show our passion and support. Bring a sign and bring your voice – we need you!

Please remember this is a positive, respectful, non-partisan event.

Together we can make a difference. Join us!

Glad to see that attention whore and generally worthless MP Elizabeth May feels that she's above the law.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...wart-1.4587631

Quote:
Two federal politicians, including Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, have been arrested at a protest against Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline expansion in Burnaby, B.C.

May and NDP MP Kennedy Stewart joined demonstrations on Friday, opposing construction of the federally approved Trans Mountain expansion.
May, the MP for Saanich–Gulf Islands, stood in line with activists at the gate of a Kinder Morgan worksite. She was arrested around noon PT and released within half an hour.

She said she's been charged with civil contempt for blocking the road. It is not a criminal offence.

Sorry, where does it say that she feels that she's above the law?

It would be a shame if someone shut down gasoline shipments in the existing Kinder Morgan pipeline to make things worse there.

She knowingly ignored the restraints put on the protestors by the courts and was arrested for blocking the road. I think her actions feel that she can just walk through a restraining order.

Shut down the pipelines, restore the block on BC wine.

When's the Federal Government going to get off of the bench?

Let me guess she rolled up in her car powered by Gasoline, lives in a house that's most likely powered by fossil fuels and reaps all the benefits of it making her comfort life possible.

I have a bunch of leftover "I won't pis$ it away this time" bumper stickers. Should I do a run of "Let those western ba$tards freeze in the dark"?

I don't think that indicates that she feels she is above the law; it simply demonstrates that she is willing to break the law to do what she feels is right. As far as I understand she was arrested and given her notice to appear. She even made note of it when being escorted from the scene. If she does it again, appears surprised and taken aback by being arrested, and mentions that she thinks she's above the law then you might have a case. I just don't think we should paint her as worse than her offenses.

It sounds to me that you take issue with her not respecting the court order. I take issue with it as well and wish the order had stipulated further distances so that police could simply remove protesters that cross the line rather than letting them set up in front of the gates. Post signs for the public, allow foot traffic as long as access is not impeded, and remove people who begin protesting.

Personally, I would have liked a 15m no protest zone offset on either side of the road allowance of the entrance. Paint a line on the road and then sit in the cruiser between it and the gates.
