I am under the impression that he was not instructed to get fleeced.

Melnyk being one for sure. The oilers picked Yak because the owner (and/or his kid) wanted him, even thought the scouts and management wanted Ryan Murray.
One interesting item about the Erik Karlsson deal: how involved the owners were. There was direct conversation between Ottawa’s Eugene Melnyk and San Jose’s Hasso Plattner. Prior to the trade, Plattner spoke to both Karlsson and wife Melinda twice each to answer any questions they had about the organization or the region.
“We are fortunate,” Sharks GM Doug Wilson said, “that we have an owner who considers it a priority to make himself available when we ask him.” (With more advance knowledge of the timing, Plattner attended the team’s post-draft John Tavares pitch in Los Angeles.)
In late July, during a calmer point in this process, Melnyk directly contacted Karlsson, asking for a face-to-face meeting to see where things stood. It never happened, as the two-time Norris winner indicated he wasn’t ready to decide his future and couldn’t guarantee when that would come. That was really the point of no return for the Senators.
huh, would you look at that.

What has that got to do with the crappy return on the trade? That's on Dorion. Unless you think Melnyk took away his phone and did all the negotiating with the other GMs. But hey, you probably do think that, based on your flippant remarks so far.

It looks like a regular commercial building that you would see on 17th ave from the outside. It definitely works in making the arena not being too imposing on the surrounding area, and allows for it to be active outside game nights. Key Arena in Seatle is kinda the same thing no?
The stacked upper level club seats also confirmed.
It's clearly marked as conceptual only. Again, don't take these renderings to heart.
Sure, but I suspect since these are the renderings the Event Centre committee is reviewing then it is likely that this is the designer/architect they will turn to when it comes time for the real thing.

They were tweeted by Jeff Davison after this morning's meetings. Looks like they came from CMLC.

From today's #ECAC meeting - a concept of what a new #EventCentre for Calgary could look like. Thank you to @CalgaryMLC for providing the visionary work for this much needed cultural and entertainment district. #yyc #yyccc #Calgary
On the other hand, the CBC's City Hall reporter, Scott Dippel, indicates they were provided by the Flames.

Committee also sees conceptual drawings of how a new arena could integrate w street/surrounding area. The renderings are from the Flames. #yyccc
I wouldn't be surprised if these are the renderings that Ken King said he had sitting in his desk drawer waiting to be revealed back in 2009/2010 before they scrapped them to work on CalgaryNext.

This was the original concept for Rogers Arena.
Versus how it turned out.
The features remained consistent in having the bridge over the street. So although the actual design of the new Flames arena likely will look different, the height and elements of the concept probably will happen.
