Default Who Was Screwed the Most Because of the Break/End

First off, it is probably good to point out that the biggest winner is the health and safety of the players. That said, some teams were burned worse then others, who got screwed the most?

I would argue that Colorado is the team that was the the most hard done by.

Capwise, the dark cloud are looming for the Avs, and this was an ideal window of opportunity.

-MacKinnon, is one a sweat heart deal, and any championship chance missed before his big pay day is a serious missed opportunity.
- Landeskog will be on his contract year next year, and will the next in line to get his big pay day.
-Burakovsky's career year will go to waste, and he will be a UFA
-Makar will only have one year left on his ELC
-Girard will be off his ELC

Performance wise, the Avs have been excellent. 3rd in the NHL. Scoring like Maniacs. Two good goalies. They were cup favorites in my opinion.

Anyways, that who I think the biggest loser is. Does anyone else have thoughts?

Ovechkin probably wants all the games (goals) he can get.

Teams that were huge buyers at the trade deadline, assuming the season is indeed toast.

It seems superficial to think about it during a pandemic, but all that aside, I am glad we didn't give up our 1st.

I do wonder if the NHL will set the reset button and throw those teams some kind of compensation picks.

I was also looking forward to the Kovie and Ovie show.

Flames were probably screwed out of a 3rd for Neal.

All the 1sts were dealt for guys with term I think so that's mostly fine

I dunno. I would have liked to see more of Kovalchuk with Ovi for sure.

According to David Staples up north, the break cost the Oilers the cup, apparently.

I didn't realize that, but it softens the blow for sure.

Yeah I gotta go with Ovechkin on this one.

This would have been his 9th 50 goal season, tying the all time record.

No one else is nearing any all time records.

Skjei for a 1st -- skjei is a pending RFA

Goodrow and a 3rd for a 1st -- goodrow has one year left after this one

Pageau for a 1st plus -- NYI extended Pageau long-term

The teams who I think were screwed the most are the Canucks (toffoli) and Knights (Lehner) both of whom acquired pending UFAs for seconds plus

Al things considered a pretty fitting ending to what has been a strange year for the Flames though. As much as I miss hockey, I don't really feel like the Flames missed anything important.

I would agree that the Oilers are probably most affected by this, but not because they had a faint hope of even getting close to another Stanley Cup. Rather, because this was an unequivocally successful season from which they benefitted for having a new coach bounce, record-setting special teams and averages in production from their top players, a 20 goal(!) season from James Neal and good goaltending. The Oilers are not a playoff team, and they were tracking to play in the playoffs for only the second time in more than a decade.

This will not happen again. Not next year; not ever.

Edmonton is no good.

I dislike anything that hurts Ovy's bid for 895.

There are a number of losers (Edmonton is always a loser so I don't count them).

Just to throw a different team into the mix how about the Bruins? They were really firing on all cylinders and would have been a top Eastern contender imo. They are getting older though - and some of their key players will eventually come down to earth. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Pending Free agents who were looking to cash in on big time deals.

HRR going to drop like a stone, big time escrow, low cap flexibility for free agents.

Ovechkin for sure is who came to mind first.

It's also tough for the older guys like Chara, Marleau, Williams, and Kovalchuk who have chance to go on possibly one last playoff run.

The Flyers were getting red hot and would've been exciting to watch.

Luckily for Flames fans, I don't think we were in store for a deep run this year.

Sure they are unlikely to even win a game in the playoffs. But they might have at least made it to the playoffs just hanging on by their dirt filled fingernails. With those extreme outlier stats unlikely to happen again, that ridiculously bad roster with nothing in the cupboard, and their terrible contracts; they could soon be approaching 2 decades with one appearance. That would be just... hilarious.

I would play my violin for the Avs, but it is so incredibly minuscule that I can no longer find it.
