Foo, Mangiapane, and Kylington are pretty interchangeable for me in spots 5, 6, and 7. However that shakes out is fine, but I have them in the mentioned order, personally.

I don't agree that Foo and Mangiapane are close. Mangiapane is both younger and significantly more productive in the AHL.

I listen to most Heat games, and I just haven't seen the defensive progression from Kylington that I had hoped for.
His offensive game is strong, but it's nothing special compared to Andersson or even Wotherspoon. He is still young and has a lot of time. But I just don't see the top 2 potential at this point.

As for Andrew Mangiapane, his first two seasons in the AHL are hard to beat. He's pretty elite league-wide. I hope he gets a real quality chance at the NHL this year. He's been my vote for the past few rounds.

Parsons had an off year, but I still think he has a lot of potential. Gillies had a pretty decent year for the Heat - he outplayed Rittich. I'm just a little skeptical on goalie prospects. It's been a long while since one has truly turned out as hoped.

The darkhorses could be some of the younger prospects who had great years in the CHL. D'Artagnan, Phillips, Gawdin and Ruzicka seem promising. I'm excited to see how they do this year.

If I want online attention, who would be the best player on this list to pick? Karnaukhov?

Gillies for me. Think his upside, downside and NHL showing were all superior to Mangiapane's. Seems to be goalies are far more criticised than skaters for poor games

Who sees the season Mangiapane just had and classifies him as no more than a "middle six forward"? His potential is as high as anyone on this list. Whether he gets there or not is another conversation though.

I’ve never wanted to be wrong more, and there seem to be a lot of people who like his game so I’m looking forward to being wrong.

But I just don’t see the hype on Foo at all.

By middle 6 I’m speaking to what he was in his 10 games with the flames this year, yes he has potential past that I do agree but with Gaudreau, Tkachuk and to a little lesser extent Bennett in front of him on the left side the road is long for Mangiapane at this point. I’m a big fan of his game and there is no doubting he is a top end player in the AHL but the jury is still largely out on him. I think Kylington has done more and has a bigger chance right now to be an impact player on the Flames but he to will have competition now with Gio still a lock for a few years, Hanifin in the fold, Kulak having a good showing and Valimaki being top end talent.

Really I think it’s close between Kylington and Mangiapane; I went with Kylington because I value his position and style a little more than I do Mangiapane as we have examples of Mangiapane already playing well at the highest level where as Kylington brings with him a very unique blend of skills and he already has 3 pro years under his belt in the AHL.

Admittedly my wording there was a bit misleading towards Mangiapane’s ceiling as just being middle 6; he defintely has more to his game than that.

The discussion we should be having is whether Dobson is a better prospet than Valimaki.

And how close we were to getting Wahlstrom.

Quote:
NHL Central Scouting: No. 5 (North American skaters)

Dobson (6-3, 176) was named a QMJHL First-Team All-Star after setting career highs in goals (17), assists (52), points (69), power-play goals (11) and shots on goal (276) in 2017-18, his second season in the league. A right-hand shot who can support the rush and is good under pressure, he had 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and 75 shots in 20 playoff games to help Acadie-Bathurst to a league championship.

NHL.com analysis: Dobson being available for the Islanders here is a surprise, but one they should be very happy about. The right-shot defenseman is an outstanding skater with a strong two-way game. Maybe most impressive was his game continued to get better the longer his season went, culminating with a Memorial Cup championship.

Should we? ...

The discussion we should be having in our 'Rank the Flames' Prospects' thread should be about NOT Flames prospects?

Do you have to derail every thread with these completely out there unrelated to the topic point of views?

Hamilton goes and next up on your plate is Hamonic? Do we have to look forward to every thread being riddled with obscure angles and takes on how much you hate the Hamonic trade now?

Stop it.

He is a Jets fan, full stop. When people point it out he goes quiet, waits a few days and then starts referring to the Flames as "we" again, so he can turn the discussion to comparing Flames players to others around the league he feels are better.
