Disgusting.

I just finished watching the whole season. One of the best shows I’ve seen, hands down. Or hands off, as it were. Like really off. Like literally separated from the rest of the body.

I don’t usually make it through entire seasons of shows. I’m a tough sell in that regard. There’s almost always something along the way that makes me go, “ok that’s enough of that.” Arrested Development is one of my favourite shows of all-time, but I could only handle watching a few episodes each of season 4 and 5... I love Ballers, but only a couple episodes at a time. Elementary and The Blacklist I’ve seen every episode of the first few seasons of each, but haven't been able to go any further for whatever reasons...

The last three shows I’ve watched from start to finish, completely enthralled the entire way, were:

Jack Ryan
Chernobyl
The Boys

(Granted, one was a miniseries and the other two have only had one season each so far...)

For the sake of thoroughness, here’s the list of shows where I’ve seen every single episode that ever aired (not ranked):

The West Wing
Sports Night
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
The Newsroom
Game of Thrones
The Last Kingdom (better than GoT, btw)
Californication
House
Daredevil
The Punisher
Jack Ryan
Chernobyl
The Boys

The #### is Deadwood not on that list when all of Sorkin is? Anyone who likes dialogue that much has no excuse.

making it all the way through Californication is commitment that show lost momentum really fast after the first season.

Have you watched Turn? I think that would fit your pattern.

You know, this show often comes up in various suggestions, and I could never figure out why. I have like zero history of watching westerns... Now I get it!

Yeah it did go down a bit in the middle seasons, but Duchovny was just so ridiculously brilliant the whole way, I stuck it out.

I've never heard of Turn. I'll look into it!

Wheel of Time cast announced. I don’t recognize anyone, except already announced Rosamund Pike.

Has anyone watched the Lodge 49? It's an AMC show that's just starting season 2, but season 1 is on prime. Oy 2 episodes in so far but it's great.

Everyone in that cast looks either sad or stoned.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't recognize any of the young cast, but they got the right look for the characters. I always thought Moiraine would be the hardest to cast and they made a great call with Rosamund Pike.

I have to admit I didn't expect to see a race blended cast, which is always hard to pull off with a fantasy world since undeveloped cultures are typically ethnically homogeneous. It's gonna be hard to talk about how Rand's hair always made him feel out place in his village when the blacksmith is a black guy.

This, to me, appears doomed to repeat the fate of The Shannara Chronicles.

Please don't remind me of that. I wanted to bail after the first episode, but my wife insisted it would get better. It did not get better.

How so? I'm entirely unfamiliar with that show.

I think that Amazon is in desperate need of prestige series to anchor their streaming service and I imagine they'd be willing to throw a lot of money at this to make it work. Plus The Boys is the best thing I've seen in years, so they can get a show right.

I'm surprised they're doing a Wheel of Time show considering they're doing the Lord of the Rings show. I can'y see WoT being their prestige series with LOTR being as big as it is.

Beloved fantasy series whose audience was teens mostly, they made an ostensibly (it seemed from trailers) high budget adaptation led by legitimate actors like John Rhys-Davies. Ultimately, it was cheap melodramatic teen schlock, and most of the cast were very pretty young people with no discernible acting talent. It was unwatchable
Everything released so far suggests to me that the same mistakes may be in the process of being made here.

Hopefully I'm wrong; the books were by no means great but I always thought they'd translate well to TV.

I'm 3 episodes into 'The Boys', and it's flipping phenomenal. What a great show. It's everything a superhero show should be. Slightly campy at times, but it feels so real. It really reminds me of what 'The Authority' / 'Stormwatch' would be like if they made it into a TV show.

Yeah, I just finished that series and it blew me away. It just gets better and better and better as the season goes on, too.
