The high stick: the concept of height no longer has meaning
The high stick call:
I'll just say, my 4 year old daughter is 4 ft tall (regulation NHL net is 4 feet tall). Nate Thompson is 6', so likely about 6'3". He is ever so slightly crouched, but his stick is at or above shoulder height. At least 5' above the ice. The puck makes contact right at this point.
Here's the NHL's explanation, unfortunately, we all have eyeballs.

Well, puck was clearly at his shoulder level. He's 6 feet tall. Net is 4 feet tall
So my conclusion is that he must have a 2 foot neck. Good goal

I was convinced it was high, but that second image you posted there really changes the angle. At the least, when compared to the first image, it shows how hard it is to tell from a replay.
The real crime is it was called a goal on the ice, and they had to overturn that. How do you call that a legal tip live? I was in the PL and thought it was a good foot high.

Let's not forget he's on skates. That probably adds in 1.5-2 inches.
Like, the top of his stick looks to be at Backlunds 6'1" height.
Therefore, it can be concluded and confirmed that Nate is a ####ing Giraffe.

But the call on the ice was "CONFIRMED".
If they had indicated there wasn't sufficient evidence to overturn the call it would be easier to swallow.

I can't believe I measured this but I was curious. I'm 6'1" and in skates my belly button is 47" - 48" from the ground standing up straight. Take away a few inches for bent knees, spread apart feet and being bent over.
I can't possibly comprehend how the puck didn't make contact above the crossbar. The NHL blew it. Again.

The average shoulder height for an average height 5'-8.5" male is 4'-8 5/8".
The average shoulder height for a 6' tall hockey player on skates is 3'-11".

Don't understand this one. If the league doesn't have the technology to conclusively review and/or logic this to the right call, then why do even bother with video review (other than for the theatre)?

You don't even have to have technology, just a ####ing measuring tape or go stand beside the net. That's easily a foot high.
Jesus Christ.

I could get over it a lot easier if they used the "too inconclusive to overturn the call on the ice" angle, but to come out and say it was 100% a good goal is downright embarassing

I'm 6' tall (72"). Skates make you at least 2" taller.
My shoulders standing straight up are at 61" off the ground. Crouching similarly to Thompson, about 59", so with skates, probably about 61".
The puck would have to be more than a foot below shoulder level where it hit the stick.
Not even close, really.

I did the same measurements. My shoulders are 60"
It's not even close. You should be able to apply deductive reasoning to overturn that in a heartbeat.

It's a high stick.
A thousand times, it's a high stick. Just because you can't see the stick and the crossbar in the same frame from the replays doesn't mean it isn't high. It's angled upwards from his chest/shoulders. In any universe, that's a high stick. I've seen that deflection height called down in the past a few times.
The absolute worst part is the explanations for these calls. They don't explain how they got to their decision, beyond a brief unsupported conclusion. It's fishy as hell, and not nearly transparent enough.
Something's wrong here.

One angle shows it hit stick before downward motion started. Crossbar angle clearly shows the stick at that point was above the crossbar. No other angle is required.
Conclusive, 100% without a doubt, no goal.

Help, save, whatever.

Those 2 photos posted show me nothing. One was from the stands(?) the other I can't even see the Ducks player but the stick appears to be almost horizontal. That the best you got?

This post doesnt make any sense to me. How can a taller players have a lower average shoulder height then shorter players?

Thanks but we watched the game and saw multiple replays.
Nice of you to chime in though.
