Saw the original Rabid on the weekend, I couldn't sleep and at 3 am on Saturday it was on IFC.
This movie is a budget made Canadian Horror movie about a girl that gets in a motorcycle accident and as a result of experimental treatment develops a appendage under her arm that allows her to feed on blood. It also passes on a version of the rabies virus that effects humans. It had some outright creepy and brutal scenes in it, and a very smart and tragic ending.
But more important was the back story.
The lead actress was Marilyn Chambers who appeared in one of the original ivory soap ads, She then moved into porn and made the infamous Behind the Green Door, and was one of the rare porn actresses that made the jump to main stream before getting forced back into porn, she ran for the VP of the United States as a Libertarian and died at the age of 59.

Funny you should post this. I actually watched this one again a few months back as I remembered it as kind of a classic in particular that mall scene and when it popped up while flipping through movies I felt compelled to at least start watching only to see it through to the end. It actually has aged fairly well given it's a 1977 Canadian movie made on a tiny budget. Cronenberg's talent overcomes a lot of the shortcomings (acting was simply not as strong in this time period as we are accustomed to today) and this is a movie that illustrates how important music was to setting up mood and an unnerving atmosphere before the days of CGI. Of course you can't talk about this move without bringing up Chambers who IMO did a fairly decent job considering it was her first movie. She was a stunner then and a stunner today as her natural girl next door beauty is on full display in this film. One wonders if she could have made a good go at Hollywood or TV had she not started out in porn as I understand even after this film she was still largely blacklisted by Hollowood leading her to fall back into porn and substance abuse.

other then that, its pretty rare. Ginger Lynn Allan did a bunch of main stream stuff, Traci Lords jumped into Mainstream as well. But other than that its rare.

After watching the movie I did a bit of reading about her later life and it's a little sad in she ended up working for car dealership and living her last days in a mobile home. Her daughter described that had a tough time finding happiness in her personal life as most men she met used her as a conquest so her relationships usually ended up with her being used and betrayed. Ultimately she ended up another victim of the porn industry.

I liked Far From Home, but Mysterio felt so hollow. Generally the MCU has been 50-50 on creating villains for stand alone installments, but this one seemed the most glaring miss. I just didn't buy his motivation at all.
However, it does set up well for the Spider-Man franchise and MCU going forward.

I quite liked Mysterio. Agreed that the motivation part wasn't that well done, but other than that he felt like something actually different.

I liked the character too. It seemed like they closed the book on the character returning, but if not then there is massive potential in Mysterio. The way they presented him is perfect for a modern allegory of misinformation and alternative facts.
Too bad he wasn't fleshed out better, but he could be a very intriguing villain.

I really enjoyed Yesterday. I see it has mixed reviews from critics - a common theme is complaining that it doesn't explore the wider impact of the Beatles not existing. This isn't a sci fi movie folks, it's a rom-com (more com than rom IMO) full of fresh takes of great music. Highly enjoyable for what it is.
Caught Toy Story 4. I had high hopes for this movie and even though 3 felt like the perfect ending, I trusted the creators to top it.
Not so much IMO. While the stakes in 3 felt immense, that is not the case here. Still a very good movie but quite a bit of repetition from previous films. While I was happy to revisit the characters, in hindsight 3 really was the perfect finish.

I saw the movie for free with my scene points and I wish I had saved them for something else. Its merely okay. They should have left it at 3.

A 35% RT rating. This is lower than Johnny English Strikes Again. Also lower than Leprechaun Returns. Wut.
So going into this movie with expectations lower than finding high art in the Cowboys tent, I wound up being moderately entertained by The Wolfman. I think it deserved a better fate.
Here are some things that it had going for it:
Benecio Del Toro (sp?), Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving all vying to one-up each other to chew up the scenery. I think Hugo Weaving won.
Practical effects by Rick Baker who has basically done effects for... well, everything. I'll always give bonus points for practical effects.
Some great death scenes.
Am I the only person who feels Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Rocketeer, Captain America) is kind of an underrated director? Not the best storyteller, but this guy consistently nails mood and environment.
Full disclosure I almost never watch anime (only seen 3 of them) but I watched Perfect Blue and it was absolutely amazing! A great physiological thriller that was so creepy and very well done. The basic story is a girl who sings in a pop group quits to become a serious actress but a fan is not happy and starts stalking her.

Saw Alita: Battle Angel recently, and it was a lot better than I was expecting. Alita herself was great, the fight scenes were awesome, and I really got into the whole universe they setup (ya I know it's from a manga). Only two negatives I have is the generic boyfriend is terrible, and it really sucks ending the movie basically saying "To Be Continued" with no actual sequel greenlit. Hopefully they do get it made, because I want to see more of that world

Watched a documentary on Netflix called "The Dawn Wall" and found it to be quite incredible. I'd for sure recommend it.
I was talking to a friend about it and he recommended "Free Solo" which seriously scared the living #### out of me. I'm not a big fan of heights, so watching this lunatic free climb (no ropes) El Capitain ranks right up there with one of the most insane, dumb, exhilarating things I have EVER seen.
And how it was made:
Free Solo isn't on Netflix but it's on Shaw on Demand for free.
