If this verdict holds any media member accountable for making up horrible bull####, then I'm all for it. This reckoning on fringe media has been coming for a while now. The law was put in place for just this reason, and it's being used to its fullest extent for the most horrifying and blatant violation of that law. The punishment should be extensive when you realize the reach that someone like Jones has. He had a massively negative impact on these people, but also American society that needs to be rectified.

This is what justice looks like. It's just been awhile since we've seen it executed to this level, but it is proportional to the impacts.

I really do not think you get it. The issue here is him not saying these hurtful things. It is him profitting off of it. I know you are our resident conspiracy theorist but even you must see how much of a grifter Jones is. He is saying the things he is saying to get people to pay up and buy #### from him. He is using the suffering of people that lost their children in a massacre to hawk products/collect money. That is the issue.

I think this award needs to be this high for 3 reasons.
1 - The people who follow/support Jones will continue to do so, he still has incredible earning potential.
2 - in the likely event that the award is reduced on appeal, the higher the original amount, the greater the chance that the penalty remains high.
3 - it may serve to send a message to all the present and future wanna-be Joneses that the courts take these types of cases seriously. It's sets a great precedent.

Keep in mind the jury award was about twice what the Plaintiff was asking for in final argument.

But the problem is, its just people (in this case the jury) piling on to "send a message". The trial was not about sending a message, it was about righting a wrong.

The jury gets mad, and doubles the damage request.

It's also a warning to others peddling the same trash, who may have deeper pockets. I think it's fine. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it will shut him up, but maybe it is just too soon for that result.
