Thanks for making sure I was okay, Flames fan in Vancouver!
I was riding my bike home from UBC today, along W 10th Ave somewhere just west of Granville Street. I entered a traffic circle, going straight through. A guy in a Honda, going perpendicular to me, approached from my right as I entered the intersection. I saw him, he saw me. It seemed he began to slow down and give me right-of-way. I was wrong. Neglecting the rules of traffic circles, he did not yield, and literally took the bike out from under me as he sped through.
Had I not seen him coming, the jackass would still be scraping bits of me off his windshield.
If not for my until-now-undiscovered catlike reflexes, I would have been seriously hurt. His car collided with my bike seemingly milliseconds after I jumped off. The bike struck the side of the car, and I somehow avoided landing on his trunk. I have not a scratch on me (good omen for tonight, IMO). His car is now well-equipped with a nice dent on the driver's side door.
I threw my arms up in disbelief, he inched forward, drove 50 feet, stopped briefly, and raced away.
Amazingly my bike sustained minimal damage and I was able to ride it home safely. This incident is consistent with my observations on Vancouver drivers and their knowledge of the rules / straight up idiocy.
But the real point of this post is to thank the guy in the Flames t-shirt (and the Asian lady, though I somehow doubt she's a CPer) who came immediately to my aid, making sure I hadn't been injured. Being a savvy Flames fan in Vancouver, you were also able to remember the ######'s license plate and give me that info as well. You are the man!
I'm slightly embarrassed to say I wasn't wearing a helmet at the time, so I won't be filing a complaint against said ######.
But thanks, man, if you post/lurk on CP. I appreciate it. If you want to watch the playoffs together, the beer is on me.

lol Anyone get the license plate of that car that just hit me?
I DID!
Pretty good story, glad you're ok. I can't believe he hit you with his car and just drove away.
PS are you a ninja by chance?

Why? A hit and run is a lot worse than riding a bike without a helmet.

I'd encourage you to take it to the police, can guarentee this is the same ###### who'll hit your car in a parking lot and go park on the other side of the lot without leaving a note.

That's the best part. Two other people on the whole block, and one was a Flames fan who had the presence of mind to get the plate number.
And no, not a ninja, I don't think! Now that I think about it, I bet the only reason I cleared his trunk is because he kept driving.
Getbak, maybe I'll talk to Trout about this, see if I should bother reporting this. I'm not hurt, my bike is okay. The only parties who are worse off are ###### (who has the dent), and the Canucks.

People in Vancouver have no idea how a traffic circle works. The amount of times I have almost been T boned in such a simple situation never ceases to amaze me.
Why does everyone drive 10 under in the passing lane?
Edit: Also, no one really wears a helmet in Vancouver anyways.
(At least around Kitsilano)

Yeah, exactly. Report the guy anyway. I really doubt the cops are going to care that you weren't wearing a helmet when there's a much more serious crime involved.
Report the prick and do everyone else on the road a favour by getting his licence suspended.

I'm just not sure I'll be able to find the time to go through this process, TBQH. Is there a time limit on these kinds of things?
And really, will getting his license suspended really make a difference on Vancouver's roads?

go to the cops, if he did this to you, he'll hit and run anybody else.
Embarassment over your lack of helmet is nothing. In fact, I doubt it will ever even be brought up unless you do it yourself which is pointless.

That really sucks, I'm glad you're physically OK.
Did you enter the circle at the same time? If so, he had the right of way.

yeah, you should totally report that. Just neglect to mention you weren't wearing a helmet. If the dude charged with a hit and run brings it up ... then whatever, he's still charged with a hit and run.

Nope, I was in first. It's a small enough traffic circle that if he'd been in first, he would have been gone out the other side by the time i got there.
And thanks, yeah. I'm very fortunate to have avoided injury.
Well, guys, you may have swayed me on this one. I might just report it!

Glad to hear you're okay, rockstar!
Report and don't let the driver get away with it. Even if he tries to deny it, there's the nice dent in his drivers door as proof.

I am sure you would be much more willing to report it had you sustained any major injuries, correct? Don't follow the NHL's wheel of justice by basing your decisions on the severity of the outcome. Report this guy, ASAP.

This.
Plus, it won't come up. Even if it did... prove it. Even if they could... so what?

I imagine it would go like this
Suspect: "Dude, why weren't you wearing a helmet? You should always wear one. This guy wasn't wearing a helmet"
.
.
.
.
rockstar: "You hit me with your f@#$ing car!"

Well at least you didn't hear a deep sinister voice yelling "Finish Him" as the driver threw his car into reverse to back over you. Then as the life was leaving your eyes that same voice says "Flawless victory"
Ah man if only life a was a video game.

We all need to do our part, however small, to make sure the world is a better place. Your small part is to report a hit and run driver when you have their licence plate number.
Idealism aside, if you don't who will? What about when this same prick hits a mother pushing a stroller. How would that make you feel? Maybe if he gets a little visit from the constabulary he will think next time. You could be saving a life.
Over the top? Yes. Melodramatic? Yes. True? Yes.
