Prior to this, when was the last time a team fired their GM mid-season?

When the Flyers fired Ron Hextall last month.

This is based on the assumption that McDavid would return equal value to what the Quebec Nordiques acquired in the Lindros trade. This will not happen. Draft picks and prospects are more valuable today than ever, and the cap renders it nearly impossible to return anything remotely comparable in value to the haul of assets in the Lindros trade.

Finally got home and watched the presser. Was hoping for exactly this comment. It simply HAS to be:

If McDavid were to be put on the block by a competent GM the Oilers would get an insane haul that could set them up sooner than later

Lindros also was not the highest paid player in a capped league. Managing that contract is going to be a challenge for any team. It would be different if McDavid was the best player by a significant margin, but he isn’t. He is right up there with the other elite players, but he hasn’t separated himself yet gets paid more.

Going to be great that they've let both goalies stew over the break upset with their situation in their own way.
Talbot, of course isn't going to love the Nicholson presser
Koskinen's 2nd period was the final straw for the GM that signed you a few days ago - and they knew it going into the 3rd. He knew it going off the ice and hears all about it today.
The 29th game as an NHL goalie will sure be an interesting test to see who this guy is

This is all there is on the radio today. I'm kind of bummed that he's gone, things can only get better for the greasers.

Only the Oilers fire people from Skype and during a 2nd period intermission. Like how unprofessional can they get?

That was actually doing Chia a solid, so he could exit the building before the end of the game and avoid the awkwardness and the media.

Where have you been for the past decade? So long as the OBC remains intact there will never be change.

LOL!

The argument could be made that if Chiarelli never picked up the phone as GM, the Oilers would likely be in a better spot than they are now.

So.....literally.....a monkey would have done better.

They couldn't have done it before the game? After the game and media scrum was over? This morning before the presser? On any non-game day? Ya, would've not been awkward to have to leave the arena silently during an intermission lol.
