“Ovechkin trying to draaaaag it through and he does” with the “OHH!” In the middle.

And adds another one to overtake Hull...because of course he does.

I feel like when Ovi is close to a milestone, it’s always a multi goal game so he meets then beats the milestone.
Maybe he’s finally starting to slow down with just one tonight.

Damn...they originally had the Caps 5th credited to him but they changed it!

What a great storyline OV has been for years. I remember watching Hull get his 700th and how remarkable it felt to see such a milestone goal. To see OV tie him at 741 is amazing.
Dude just keeps on gettin' on without slowing down. On pace for 75 goals. Lofty expectations obviously but I think 50 should be a lock for him.

The same thing happened on the Caps 1st goal. He was the play maker in this game, OV had 2 assists and that gets him to 600 career assists.

The other stat OV is approaching to be #1 is career PPGs. He has 269, just 5 back of Dave Andreychuk.

Wouldn't that be something if his 36 year old season was better than his 22 year old season when he scored 65 goals.

If Ovechkin can pot 60 goals in this season than he'll really have a great shot at breaking the record. Everyone's math on it was based on him scoring 40 goals / season for the next few years. Adding in another 20 in one season would be huge.

No doubt.
If he scores 60 this year that means hes at 790 goals after this season.
He would only need 30 per season in the last three years of his current contract to break the record.
If not for COVID, and the lockouts this wouldn't even be close.

Ovechkin should already be considered the greatest goal scorer of all time. The caliber of Goaltender/ defensive schemes since he was been in the league is much better than any thing the Weiner faced.

Well it's all relative.
He's averaging 53 goals per 82 games over the last 4 seasons.

People have been saying he would only get ~30 a year since 16-17, and he evidently took that personally lol.
I think he's going to do it. Which is absolutely ludicrous all things considered. We might be talking about this/next season if he didn't have all those missed seasons for reasons outside of his control.

If ovechkin scores 60 at his age in this era it would be the greatest single goal scoring accomplishment in NHL history

Last night Ovechkin scored #741 v. Buffalo, tying him with Brett Hull for #4 on the All-Time list. It seems likely that so long as he is healthy he will pass Jagr before the end of the season with only 25 goals to go in the next 70 games.
Gretzky scored his record-setting 894th goal on 29 March, 1999 in his 1,479th game. At this point, not only does it seem possible that Ovechkin could actually reach Gretzky's record, but it seems plausible that he could do so inside the same number of games. It would require him to score 153 goals in 270 games. That is 0.57 goals/GP; Ovechkin's career average is 0.613 goals/GP. In the last four seasons he has scored at a rate of 0.635, and he does not appear to be slowing down.
1 Wayne Gretzky — 894 [1487 GP]
2 Gordie Howe — 801 [1767 GP]
3 Jaromir Jagr — 766 [1733 GP]
4 Alex Ovechkin — 741, *8 Nov: 11G/12GP [1209 GP]
4 Brett Hull — 741 [1269 GP]
As Ovechkin passes players on the All-Time list I will be removing them. This is the last time Brett Hull will appear on my list.

Pretty amazing that he will likely pass Howe next year.

If he keeps scoring 50+ for the next 2 or 3 seasons (which is very realistic), I would think he will play on to chase 1,000 goals, and he will probably get there in about 6 or 7 years...

I wonder if Ovie, or any other pro athlete, is using some previously unused medical treatments to prolong his career. For all we know he could be going into panama in the off season to get stem cell treatments that repair his joints and rejuvenate his body. I honestly think we're heading into an era where elite athletes are regularly going to be active players into their 40s.
