According to Feaster, he's coming over to play in Abbotsford. I guess it will all be sorted out in training camp but looking at it now, I'd guess Brossoit goes to Utah. Graduating junior goalies often start in the ECHL, so it's no disgrace for Brossoit, he could even be sent back to Edmonton.

Steinberg tweeted a few days ago that he sees Brossoit starting in the ECHL if he doesn't go back to junior next season.

I thought Feaster actually said he's good enough to come over, not that he will be in NA for sure next season. In any case I agree that the ECHL is fine for one season for Brossoit. I think the Flames can skip drafting a goalie this year with Ortio, Brossoit and Gilles developing the next few years.

I think it was Henry Fool who pointed out that some of the moves recently made by Ortio's Finnish team point to Ortio not returning there next season. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As for the Flames drafting another goalie in his draft, I hope they do, just not with one of heir first rounders. With nine total picks at his point, I don't mind snagging another goalie prospect. Keep the pipeline humming, and hopefully they all continue to improve.

I'd be okay if they drafted Tristan Jarry in the third round or even fourth round if he falls that far.

I see a lot of Dan Girardi in Tyler myself.
They play a very similar game. I am not sure if Wotherspoon will ever top out as the player Girardi is today, but he will have a long NHL career regardless in my estimation.

Mark Cundari interview on the FAN 960; sounds like Craig Conroy; not your typical hockey interview cliches

Rico Fata signed with Granlund and Ortio's HIFK.

WTF?!

EDIT: They've also signed former Flames prospect Juuso "Puusy" Puustinen. No one knows where Ortio plays next season, it seems.

yeah, back in April. Don't know what kind of surgery, but the procedure went well, according to his twitter.

In that Feaster presser last week, when talking about the goaltending situation next year, after speaking of all the other goalies who will battling for spots (MacDonald, Ramo, Berra, Brosssoit), at the end he said "and Joni Ortio has informed us that he expects to be in that mix as well".

Seems like he's comi to NA again next fall. If he fails to win an NHL spot, it'll be interesting to see if he stays in NA and battles for an AHL spot.

Ward's defensive system is so unbelievably stifling that I think it would be excellent for him to push for a starter or split starter role in Abby.

When Ortio started those few games for the Heat, everyone was still trying to get comfortable to Ward's new systems. Now, three years later, everyone understands Ward's defensive system and it should help a young goalie like Ortio adjust to the NA game.

(Side note: I wonder what they're going to do with the hundreds of Heat banners on the light poles around town that are prominently sporting Irving?)

Ward's defensive system will be no more though. The Flames have stated that the farm team will be employing the same systems as the big club, which means a more wide open game.

You're right. I completely forgot about that.

Not to mention that Luke Strand (who ran the defense) and Cail MacLean (who ran special teams) are moving on. So yes, there should be a lot of changes next season.

Haven't a clue. It'll be interesting to find out who it is though.

Also I can see the Flames changing their system due to the change in personnel.
