Starting to look less likely that Jankowski makes opening day roster?
practice lines today
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames lines today:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Versteeg-Bennett-Brouwer
Glass-Stajan-Hamilton
Jankowski extra
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Lazar taking turns with Hamilton on the right side of the fourth line.
If Flames sign Glass, Jankowski would have to be sent down to make room on the roster once Jagr is made official. Today was the last day to put players on waivers before tomorrow's roster deadline.

Not impressed. Jankowski needs to play, not sure what else he needed to do. Maybe they are showcasing a player today for a trade or Jankowski has an injury?

If the role up for grabs is a fourth line winger who throws his body around for 7-10 minutes per game, Glass is better suited for that. It's better for Jankowski to play and practice in a more significant role in Stockton than to have him practice with the Flames and routinely sit out of games or play 7-10 minutes per game. IMO.
The Flames have taken the slow and patient approach to Jankowski in his entire tenure with the organization, there's no reason continuing that approach for another season is problematic.

I realize that everyone wants Jankowski on the team.... but is it better for his development to be playing on the first line and top pp in Stockton until there is an injury to one of the top 9 forwards?
I am not sure management wants to see him stuck on the 4th line with 3 very strong lines in front of the forth line. There is not going to be a lot of minutes for that 4th line.

The bigger outrage would be Freddie playing over Jankowski. At least Glass has played the role he got asked to play

He played 4 years in college and 1 year in the AHL. The guy is 23 not 18, so at some point you need to give him a chance and let him move up the lineup. Just my opinion.

Jankowski has done everything to earn a spot. He's ready and has earned the chance. The team has enough 4th liners already on the roster and in the system.

Exactly, I just don't get what they seem in Freddie - besides being Dougie's brother. Gotta be frustrating to be a prospect on this team and never getting a chance to show what you can do with the big club

I’ll be surprised if Jankowski is out of the line-up and Stajan is in.
I expect to see:
Stajan - Jankowski - Brouwer
...or perhaps we’ve got something else cooking here trade-wise.

This line of thinking on here is tired and old. That may apply to guys that aren't quite there and need to learn more at a lower tier of competition, but Janko is there.
He deserves to be up. Simply training and practicing and playing (even limited time) with the big club will provide invaluable experience and prepare him for being a league regular. Easing him in is good. If his play is strong, he'll get more responsibility. 4 college years and an AHL all star season is pretty sufficient preparation.

Dude is 23 years old now. Time to see what he can do in the NHL even if its 7 minutes a game.

No it wouldn't. Freddie's role would be to sit in the press box and eat popcorn 80% of the time. That is absolutely not what we want Jankowski doing.

He might just be sitting out the first game too. Maybe sit him for the opener then put swap him out with someone else for game 2?

Would be extremely disapointed if he's sent down.
Two very simple facts:
1. He's shown he's done more than enough to stick
2. He's better than every player projected to play on the 4th line
I don't buy that 4th line needs to be just muckers. Hopefully they make the right decision here.

Not when the alternative is Tanner Glass playing minutes in the NHL. Tanner Glass sucks we have a decade worth of evidence that Tanner Glass is awful... he should not be in the NHL.
Seriously, if the Flames want to deflate the good feelings I have towards them due to Jagr keeping Glass and demoting Jankowski would be a fabulous way to do that.

I'm thinking the team is gonna sit him for the opener in Edmonton and put him in the lineup for our home opener. Knowing Edmonton there will probably be a 45 min opening ceremony so it might be hard for a rookie to stay focused.
