So I suppose the Flames have invited Rod Pelley to camp. He hasn't played an NHL game in five years. Should be interesting.

That might imply (at least to start):
Gaudreau/Monahan/Ferland
Tkachuk/Backlund/Frolik
and maybe
Lazar or Foo/Bennett/Versteeg

He is likely candidate to be captain of the Heat.
Captain of the Albany Devils for the last 4 years.

Looks like they're keeping lines and pairing to same groups:
Group A
Gio - Hamilton
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Group B
Brodie - Hamonic
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Group C
Kulak - Stone
Lazar - Bennett - Versteeg

Three things:
- Gaudreau and Monahan are in the same group as both Ferland and Brouwer, who I'd expect will both get looks on their right side. Ferland will almost definitely get the job.
- Michael Stone is in the same grouping as the guy who's trying to pass him on the depth chart: Rasmus Andersson.
- Speaking of Stone, he's wearing 26 in this camp, which wouldn't normally be odd -- he wore that last year. What's odd is that Tyler Wotherspoon will also be wearing that number.

Interesting...Team A has 1st D pairing, 1st string goalie and 2nd forward line (3M). Team B has 2nd D pairing, back-up goalie and 1st forward line. Team C has 3rd string goalie, 3rd D pairing (assuming Kulak is 6th) and 3rd forward line (Bennett, Versteeg & Lazar/Foo).

Looking at the teammates / lines I am kind of disappointed that Jankowski wasn't in Group A or C. Looks like reps with Brouwer, Hamilton for a possible 4th line role.
Of course that's all likely to change as camp progresses but there seems to be a definite mindset with these groupings to have people play together with their expected linemates from the start. Already feeling better than last preseason.

^^ I think (well, hope) the Flames will start much better, because they already have the makings of the 5 man groups. I like what they are doing for camp.
Given what looks to be somewhat disparate groups, do they not scrimmage much at camp?

Group A needs a fixing:
55 - Darryl Olsen - PTO
Dylan
Only because I read Darryl and legit was confused for a second as to who this was.

No. Last year, there was very little scrimmage time. Of course, they were working on getting everyone up to speed on the new system, so things might be different this year.
Glad to see the on-ice sessions are back at the Dome again this year. Much easier to get to than COP.

They should cut the roster down to size rather quickly, and get to work with the actual team ASAP. I think it provides a huge benefit to do that and trying to get a head-start on the season.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were a bunch of cuts after the first split-squad games.

Pat SteinbergVerified account @Fan960Steinberg
On #Flames training camp roster, Maggio, Lowry, and Robak are on PTO’s. Yevenko, Findlay, and Pelley are on AHL deals.

Robak was actually pretty solid last year during pre season and (by others accounts) when he played for the heat.
All the other try outs were terrible

My guess is he will get some time with Johnny/Mony. Ferland is the guy with them however I bet they don't know who to put Janko with yet as he has no experience really so Gaudreau/Monahan could be "testers".

My guess is Andersson is with Valimaki due to their Penticton success and Kulak is with Stone

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried Valimaki with Stone for a little bit...
