We were after him before the deadline IIRC, or he was being bandied about as an option.

Gotta be a salary dump from the Leafs part. Puzzling move unless there's another signing coming.

Strictly a cap dump of a good player.

Excellent work, Devils.

As for the Leafs... oof. Can't believe they couldn't find more value around the league for Johnsson.

Yeah, I'd imagine he could got a 2nd round pick at the draft (or in this year a 3rd rounder). Again, weird move (though I haven't even heard of this Anderson guy).

Johnsson is a former 20 goal scorer. Anderson, as I've just learned, has played over 50 nhl games over 2 seasons and I've never heard of him. This does not seem good for Toronto.

Not as lopsided as one might think. After a good rookie season Johnsson regressed last season. Anderson is a former 3rd round pick, still only 22, and after an iffy rookie season (7 points in 34 games) he improved to 6 in 18 last season and has some decent AHL numbers.

Leafs dumping $3.4M without taking anything back. Gotta be another move coming for them right?

Well they got a 22 year old that was a 3rd rounder and who played in the league as a 20 year old and a 21 year old and had 34 points in 44 games in the AHL as a 21 year old. He also put up decent numbers in his 18 year old and 19 year old seasons in the NCAA. I do not think it is a straight salary dump.

Leafs were over the cap with a few key RFAs to sign. Feel like this was a necessary cap dump.

You're right. Looks like they have about 2M now on cap space after the deal.

I wonder if they go after Perry. There was apparently some interest by both parties.

Edit: Nevermind, read about the RFAs they have to re-sign

Wow can't believe they traded Mango and only got that. Kappy and him were always considered Top6 potential. I guess the injures hurt his value. Hoping he breaks out in NJ.
