Oh man, I sure hope not. My favorite part of this trade was knowing we sold high on a player that a team is going to regret going long term on.

I actually think the Flames sold high on all the hype around Hamilton, Ferland's inflated value and Fox considering he was bound not to sign here.

Made 50 cents look like a dollar.

Just wondering where the rumours came from that Fox wasn't going to sign with the Flames. I think I missed that.

Direct Treliving quote around the draft.

Don't get me wrong, here. While I am a big fan of Ferland I am most certainly NOT resigned to adding him to the team at any cost. I would like to see him come back in the unlikely event that the term and dollar figures are sensible. I think he will have a decent season, but am highly sceptical he will reproduce his numbers from last year, and I think this will ultimately also bring his value down a little from where it seems to be trending.

They’d have to make a trade as I don’t see much room

Gaudreau
Lindholm
Tkachuk
Neal
Bennett
Frolik

Are all top nine wingers.

If Bennett or Frolik move along I guess.

I love Ferly but honestly, I feel like Treliving traded him at the exact right time because I don’t think he will ever eclipse last year’s numbers. I don’t see him playing with players of Gaudreau or Monaghan’s caliber again and he’s not a guy that can drive a line on his own. Solid 3rd liner that can fill-in in the top 6 as needed.

For sure, but my counter would be that anecdotally it seemed Ferland seemed to pack it in when he was demoted below the top six.

He tried hard on the first line until a certain number of games, then had a noticeable drop in effort. But actually dropped significantly in the line-up he just didn't put in a satisfactory effort, imo. And if brought back I don't see him getting top six minutes anymore.

Treliving made the comment after the trade. Waddell claims he foresees no problems.

If Fox doesn’t want to sign with a team before being able to go UFA, that legitimately reduces his trade value. If his aversion is particular to the Flames, well there are plenty of examples of GM’s who have extracted exceptional value from players who force a trade.

At this point, the trade is what it is. There have certainly been a few things coming out that have had the effect of reducing the perceived value of the pieces the Flames moved out. Which is a bad look for all involved IMO.

Frolik? Better player for far longer. Just better in every aspect of hockey save maybe some body checks and some fights.

GM's that proclaim they see no problems with a future player signing before hand: 100%

The best deals will always involve selling high, and I do believe we traded both Hamilton and Ferland when they were at their maximal value.

I would think a lot of GM's would prefer the 26 year old Ferland over the 30 year old Frolik going forward, and still others may rather have the 22 year old Sam Bennett, to each his own.

True. Which is why instead of believing what you want to believe, I tend to think it’s best to discount most all public GM comments as spin and posturing.

If I’m a GM, I’m picking Frolik.

Holy hell, he’s underrated.

So you wouldn't have made the Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin trade if it was Michael Frolík instead of Micheal Ferland?

That’s not the question, the question is Frolik or Ferland? I pick Frolik without even thinking twice.

That's grasping at straws. Of course you make the trade with both Ferland or Frolik on the table.
