In fairness to Gillies, there is no amount of Defense that can provide an answer to the hands of Nugent Hopkins

All he is doing at this point is taking time away from our actual goalie prospects.

This is definitely his last year in the organization. Treliving should have bought him out in the off season with Stone.

Gillies did lose both grandparents in the summer. There is no way the Flames will punt him without supporting him as much as they can. I have full confidence the Flames have a plan to try to help him without hindering the team. And I wish him all the best. Sadly, it won't be with the Flames.

Someone’s got to tell Gillies how to win Tre’s heart. Because he hasn’t got a clue.

Things were on track until the issue and surgery. He was never the same after.

Gillies ****could**** be the next Binnington. A year ago St. Louis was willing to takea low pick for him.

...If only the flames won a cup with Gillies! (sorry Laurant Brisbois)
There is a huge difference between Binnington and Gillies. While Binnington spent a lot of time in both the AHL and ECHL, his numbers were usually great. Gillies has yet to post dominant season totals in the AHL.

Default What's next for Jon Gillies?

Very likely, waivers, clear, loan to another affiliate. Getting games in for Parsons and Zagidulin should be the main priority for the Flames brass. Gillies has had ample time to improve his game and it has instead stagnated. His time with the organization is likely over.

Reminds one of Brent Krahn. High expectations with no results, in Krahn's case injuries sadly taking their toll.

I'd say some time in Europe, Kari Ramo and Reto Berra style. And then, like them, have some overhyped overrated windbag pump their tires after he's been out of the North American spotlight and media and claim how good he's become, rightly or wrongly.

Agreed, see also Jason Muzzatti

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...y.php?pid=3876

Flames round 1 pick #21 overall 1988 NHL Entry Draft

After a long career he's come full circle and is now coaching the past four seasons at Michigan State University.

At least Gillies wasn't a high draft pick.
