Default 'Cobra Kai', a Karate Kid Sequel Series coming in 2018

http://ew.com/tv/2017/08/04/karate-k...alflow_twitter

Quote:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which was first to report the news, the half-hour comedy received a straight-to-series order with 10 episodes of Cobra Kai, set 30 years after the original film. In this next chapter of the saga, Johnny is down on his luck and re-opens the Cobra Kai dojo on his search for redemption. This puts him at odds with Daniel, who, though successful, is trying to find balance in his life without Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita, who died in 2005).

So much potential in this. I hope they can do the original(s) justice (1 and 2). Did 'Stranger Things' kick off an 80's nostalgia trip in TV? If so I am completely ok with that.

Interesting because that reboot just really didn't work, the strongest part of it was Jackie Chan who was good in everything, but Jaden Smith was really bad, and it didn't make much sense.

The only thing I wonder is this sounds a lot like the third Karate Kid in that the down on his luck teacher opens the Cobra Kai dojo with the help of a former over the top villain student and goes after Daniel who's opened a tree shop.

In the end Johnny had been pretty much redeemed first of all by showing sportsmanship when Daniel beat him, and then afterwards in the parking lot where he really saw that the whole Cobra philosophy was a bust.

So is Johnny going full blow villain again?

All I know is that this blows the door wide open for a Neil Patrick Harris cameo as Barney.

My only issue is that it is a comedy. This does not seem like it should be a comedy.

Is it the original actors? If so that could be pretty entertaining.

"Cobra Kai: Ralph Maccio and William Zabka are Broke"

Might hit a little too close to home.

William Zabka is still ranked as one of the best villain teenage actors of the 80's.

Maybe they need to bring Mike Barnes in from the third movie, he must want some revenge as well.

Piece of trivia, the actor Sean Kanan was nearly killed in the scene where he was thrown through the door out of the Cobra Kai Dojo. He had to shoot that scene 20 times and then went on vacation and passed out in Vegas. The Doctors found that he had 20 quarts of blood in his abdomen from a ruptured abdomen wall. When he told the doctor that he couldn't have an operation because he might lose his role in the movie. The Doctor replied that "He didn't think he could even save his life, let alone the movie role"

I think the doctors should have been concerned with the three people who had all of the I blood stolen!

Yes, and as I said in the Trailer thread, this looks laughably bad.

I should have checked there first, but assumed since this wasn't a movie it wouldn't be posted there.

Counterpoint: It looks awesome, and it will be filled with many "memberberries" that we will gobble up and love.

In fairness it looks in line with the original, which B T Dubs, hasn't aged well.

Dutch? How can you hate Dutch? Not only is he Steve McQueen's son, but he was awesomely perfect in that roll.

The guy that they need to bring back is the Body Bag screaming guy. I think his name was Tommy.

The guy they need to bring back is the Ref Pat Johnson, because he'd now be able to use the line "I'm better then Chuck Norris"

As a piece of trivia, the fighter Vidal was played by Daryl Vidal who was a master and the guy who actually invented the Crane Kick.

BTW, now I need the famous 80's montage because of this.

Whoa now, let's not say things you'll regret later.

It's still great, it still holds up, I watched it with my 8 and 5 year old and they both loved it. Part two is solid also, gets nice and dark.

Bought this t-shirt when I was in LA last year. I just couldn't walk about of the store without it.

In that preview Johnny looks like he went through a meat grinder. Did he just not age well?
