Singles night at a fried chicken joint might be fun.

Golfing and fishing would be pretty high up for me. Same with gym time.

Work out, play 18, get baked and hit a movie for the popcorn.

That’s my retirement plan.

One year away and you’re out of sorts?

Calgary is the exact same as when I moved here 8 years ago, plus breweries.

To suggest you're out of touch after eight months just means you weren't in touch in the first place. First summer back after University was one of my favorite summers of my youth. Summer aws four months instead of two, "old" friends reuniting, working, drinking at night. Old flames, new flames.

No disrespect, but get out there kid. You should've grown tired of the Chinook mall around 14.

What about biking? There’s a ton of pathway systems in Calgary, plus fish creek is great to kill an afternoon in (and during the workday is almost empty). I prefer cycling alone, but I don’t know if that’s your thing.

Considering your username I thought a different kind of biking.

So he's still got a year!

That's my go-to. Get a half decent bike and go hit Bragg, Sibbald, etc. Take a 6-pack and trade beer for shuttle laps at Moose. 12 mile coulee if you want to stay inside the city limits. COP makes for some half decent riding. They're building an enduro track which has some promise. And B-line is always fun. As a shift worker I'm off a ton mid-week with no one to head out with usually so I'll hop on the bike.

Hiking is good too. If you hang out at the trail head it's pretty easy to find hiking partners if you'd prefer that. Don't be stupid though - Yamnuska requires more than flip-flops and a 355ml bottle of water, even though it's 'so close to the city it's not even a hike'

Stand up paddle-boarding can be an easy/fun solo hobby. Canmore, Bowness, Ghost. Hit the Bow with it if you're ballsy. Invest in a helmet. If you want something similar but not, buy a river surf board. Hit the 10th st bridge.

Golf. Solo golfing with headphones is fantastic. Crushing 18 holes during twilight hours or at a city course while ignoring the world is quite enjoyable, even if you suck. The nice thing about solo golf is the unlimited mulligans and ample use of the foot wedge.

Somebody already mentioned photography. Go do some street photography. See if anyone on CP with a car they like wants to do a car photo shoot. Take pictures of the peace bridge. I killed at least 2 summers doing that.

Do something completely stupid. Buy an inflatable t-rex costume, carry a sign that says "free hugz" and wander around Stephen Ave. Laugh at people that don't realize your t-rec arms aren't long enough for a hug. Take pics. Have your monday-friday friends come up with some dumb objective like that, that you have to accomplish the following week, and you pick the best one.

I don't think you're out of touch so much as you're finding the challenges of being off mid-week.

If none of those appeal to you, I can't understate the time you can kill day drinking and then posting in CP threads that infuriate you. In my case it's anything to do with politics or recycling. Keep in mind I likely only have 6 people on this site that don't have me on ignore, and 4 of them haven't logged in since the 04 cup run. YMMV.

A number of years ago I had a girl from CP on my Tinder matches list. To this day I still regret not messaging her, even if it was just to say "Hey, noticed your Tinder pic is the same as your CP avatar. Can I interest you in a beer at Flames Central?"

Yeah, biking was gonna be my suggestion. Calgary is blessed with one of the most expansive network of bike paths of any city. Get out there and explore! It's especially beautiful along the rivers this time of year. Just be careful of the Canada geese and their goslings. They will attack if approached!

And yeah, maybe I wasn't in touch with the city to begin with. Summers have always kinda dragged to me. I guess maybe I'm not used to having four-and-a-half months off instead of two. Just makes it more obvious, I guess.

Will look into the things mentioned in here. Thank you all for your help.

Don’t take the Rockies for granted. Maybe just drive west and pick out a hike in advance. Pack a lunch and see at the end of the day how you liked it?

My first time in a new city and not knowing many people I got in really good shape at the gym and worked on my golf game at the driving range. It passed the time and felt productive.

Play tourist.

What sites do tourists want to see?

If I was going to Calgary tomorrow, where would you tell me to go/take me?

Go up Calgary Tower?
Take the Saddledome tour?
See the Peace Bridge?

You can live in a town your whole life and never see the sites.

Explore the neighborhood, see the parks, stop in the mom and pop shops. Grab lunch at a hole in the wall diner.

Or do what I do, go for a run at the neighborhood park then grab a beer.
