You've had an outright bizarre hate-on for Treliving for years (calling him a slimy rat very early in his tenure here). You're now just blindly hating on anything he does devoid of context. When we combine this with you bragging about being rude to his face, it's really a wonder why anyone even engages with you at all.
Look Solomon first of all I don't hate on Anything Treling does I hate on stupid things Treliving does like hiring Gulutzan like adding Brouwer, like awful project signings he has made every season. Like going to this draft with zero picks until the 4th round than trading away a player who you only a couple seasons ago spent what was it a 1st round pick and 2 seconds to get
When Treliving does something decent I have given him his due like the Hamilton trade with Boston, like the Hamonic trade when they occurred. But I am not going run down the street and start banging on doors yelling wake up everyone u will not believe who we signed Derek friggin Ryan . Yes that elite Derek Ryan. It is what is an average signing on a average player nothing more.
I was a Flames fan 3 decades before Treliving arrived on the scene Flames & I will be a fan when he is gone.
It is absolutely ridiculous to define any fan whether they like or dislike the GM.
Tell me one fan that says the reason I cheer for my team is because of the GM. Who gives a dogs lunch if like Treling or not. Seriously why does it bother u so much that I don't like the guy.
Its amusing.
I know several people in RL who cant stand him so what. I know several people that like him. Again why does it really matter to you so much how I feel about good old Brad.

Ryan put up 38 points last season and has amazing possession stats, scoring chance rates and faceoff %.

His 1.59 eP/60 last season would've ranked 5th on the Flames.

Over 20 teams showed interest.

We just got an excellent top 9 player
I heard over 31 teams showed interest.

Curious to see the dollar amount, Ryan's value becomes significantly less the higher to AAV.

Can't wait to see 31 teams signed 12.90 Derek Ryan's tomorrow.

Just a reminder....~80M cap / 22 players = 3.6M.

Bargains are great and overpayments are bad...but the average NHL is a 3.5M player now.

Stajan's last contract was 4.5% of the cap at the time and had a modified NTC likely bringing down the AAV. Even today 4.5% of today's cap would be 3.6M.

Stajan's contract wasn't much of a hindrance in my opinion (and entirely worth it just for the Canucks game 6 goal). So while I would like the AAV at 3M or less, if it's 3.5M I'm not going to lose sleep.

It's pretty much the same guy everytime.

We had the worst bottom 6 in the league. That was just upgraded.
He’s a middle six player being paid middle 6 money.
You literally NEED “average” players to make a team...
You can’t have superstar bottom six players making 3 million here...
Flames got better and deeper so definitely stoked about that.

I'm firmly on board with this. Watching the Lindholm and Hanifin videos that were posted on here, I was surprised how often I noticed Ryan in a good way. Looks like a very smart player that can contribute in numerous ways and I think he'll help the Flames a lot. A right handed center who can play up and down the lineup, contribute in all situations and actually provide scoring depth? What's not to like?

I would have prefered two years for sure, but with the interest he's been getting, it's pretty clear that it was going to be three years for sure. Also hoped it'd be below 3m, but at the end of the day, the fact that Peters knows him so well significantly diminishes the risk for me. Good to have him on board.

Just worried that he's a flash in the pan on this level, and going 3 years at >4 million (which is what a 40p RH possession centre gets minimum) is risky.

He's exactly what we need, 'IF' he really is the 40p, face off and possession wizard some are advocating. Problem is, maybe he's not, maybe he's just a very ordinary player who got hot and was put in fortunate situations?

As long as term is 3 years and the dollars are <3.5 I can live with it, he has proven much much less than Stajan had when we signed him.

I think this will help the Flames. You’d much rather have a few bargains on your roster, guys who have come up through the system to fill middle roster spots but let’s be honest about Flames forward depth right now.

I like the idea that Peters was able to take a player like Ryan that previously didn’t have success in the NHL, and he recognized or saw attributes in him, and then was able to coach him up. To me, it says a lot about the coach as much as the player. I can’t help but think that Sam Bennett is looking at this and thinking “I want to be that guy, and more”. Who else could benefit from that type of relationship?

Czarnik deal is a classic case of getting a guy with potential with a slight overpayment that has no significance to the team but makes a difference to the player. He was probably offered 900k-1M from other teams but that extra 250k makes a huge difference in salary for an unestablished player.
