BUF and Jeff Skinner, who is a pending UFA, are closing in on an eight-year extension. It’s expected to have an AAV of $9M or thereabouts.

This is not going to be a good contract. He's a good player but not a 9 million dollar player

I like Skinner a lot, but yikes. Too much term and dough. Already feels like a contract they'll want to move in a few years.

Buffalo has sucked for so long and has trouble attracting top tier free agents so I think they got scared and just wanted to secure a star who wanted to play there before he had a chance to receive other offers.

Skinner is great, but 8 years is insane. The cost of keeping a high end UFA of his age though.

This will be considered a bad contract sooner rather than later. He'll probably be the whipping boy as early as next year. If those is one of those buyout proof NMC contracts it will be a total fail.

What ever he is, he's definitely not a $9 million/year player.
